Trump to sign defence act preventing weapons sales to Turkey
2018-08-13

U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend a signing ceremony in Fort Drum, New York, for a national defence bill that will prevent U.S. weapons sales to Turkey, including the new generation F-35 fighter jets ordered by the country.

The $716 billion John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (NDAA) calls a halt to weapons sales to Turkey until the Pentagon produces a report within 90 days detailing U.S.-Turkish relations and the effect of cutting Turkey out of the F-35 production chain.

Turkey received its first pair of a projected 100 F-35 fighters in June. However, the jets remain in the United States where their Turkish pilots are receiving training, and are not due to arrive in Turkey until at least Sep. 2019.

This, and the delivery of a further 28 currently on order, have been targeted in the NDAA due to Turkey’s purchase of S-400 missile defence systems from Russia and imprisonment of U.S. citizens, including Andrew Brunson, an evangelical pastor held on terror charges since Oct. 2016.

Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Thorn Tillis, the bill’s lead sponsors, said in a statement in July when the it was successfully negotiated that they “felt it inappropriate and dangerous to send Turkey F-35 aircraft at this time, while the Turkish government continues to wrongfully imprison Americans and U.S. Consulate staff.”

Since then, Brunson and the other detained U.S. citizens and employees have been at the centre of a diplomatic spat that has seen Trump slap sanctions on two Turkish ministers and double the tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminium, exacerbating the most drastic plunge in the lira's value seen in decades.

The Turks’ planned purchase of the S-400 systems, meanwhile, has raised concerns among North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members that they could be used to feed sensitive military data to Russia.

The removal of Turkey from the F-35 supply chain would be a blow for Turkish defence firms, at least ten of which are involved in production of components including fuselages and cockpit screens. Turkey has reportedly invested over $1 billion in the F-35 project.

Trump Türkiye Karşıtı Tasarıyı Bugün İmzalıyor
Ulusal Savunma Yetki Yasası tasarısı, F-35'lerin Ankara’ya teslimatını, ABD Savunma Bakanı’nın Dışişleri Bakanı’yla da istişare ederek 90 gün içinde Kongre’ye Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerinin durumuyla ilgili bir rapor sununcaya kadar askıya alıyor. Yaz başında Arizona’da iki uçağın Türkiye’ye teslim töreni yapıldı. Uçakların, Türk pilotların 1-2 yıl süren eğitim sürecinin ardından Türk topraklarına transferi öngörülüyor

. . . . .
good for turkey they will be more free nation . USA is not ally of anyone
What about the military hardware already in use, that is potentially a 100 Billion $ wasted. Most equipment might become non-operational within a year. And moreover no country is a reliable partner. Geopolitical situations keep changing. Pakistan knows this better than most. It was the apple of USA's eyes and a fierce enemy of USSR. See how the situation has changed.

Turkey has spent alot of time, money and effort trying to build weapons for itself ready for this moment when a unreliable U.S starts going full retard..

Rather then see this as a risk, treat it as the necessary incentive to continue on the path Turkey has taken and to reach out to the numerous states not compliant with a U.S hegamon out of control

This day was ALWAYS coming, if only the arabs were smart enough to understand. Atleast Turkey has a vibrant defence industry

.
What vibrant defence industry? Turkey is still entirely dependent on US and European equipment. Yes, Turkey has a few weapons in production, but even some of those are copies of European or US stuff. Not to mention, the Turkish military has been part of NATO for a very long time. All its standards, equipment, training, and doctrine are handed down by NATO. Cutting all that suddenly will cause a very severe imbalance. An imbalance that could take decades to fix. Russia and China will never treat Turkey the way NATO did. Turkey got away with a lot because of its favorable position within NATO. If it goes out, that political cover will go and suddenly all types of problems that were suppressed will suddenly pop up.

. . .
erdogan can treat israel?
Erdogan did threaten Israel.. and we know you guys always run to US for help. and that a$$hole of a country bails you out always..

Anyway, your days are numbered.. just like you believe in your prophecies, we believe in ours.. and good thing is that everything is happening according to the prophecies.. so no worries.. enjoy for now..

if only the arabs were smart enough to understand.
They are next.. fools think they are safe.

Entirely dependant ? A few weapons ? Being Copy of European or US weapons is an obstacle in front of our national design and production capability? Cutting standarts, training and doctrine of NaTO but How? What you counted is about military tradition and culture. What do you know about Turkish defence industry ?
