Well, I think I will disagree with you on one point. It's true that the N. KOREAN maniac/dictator/regime led by Kim Jung Un ALWAYS makes such ridiculous/foolish claims/remarks almost every month. It has been the same for the past decade. So we are already use to them. Moreover you need to know that N. Korea is a small insignificant country when it comes to how it can influence the world economy and world issues. It's a very poor, closed and backward country, especially when compared to all its neighbours. As such., we all know that poor relatively small developing countries who's dictators often like using the western threat to justify their regime and hold on power often tend to make such rash and silly remarks which nobody takes seriously. It's normal though, since when you know you are weak while facing a far superior adversary (in every field) you often tend to be more defensive and adopt the tough talk since you know that's one of the few things you have that you can use against your opponent. So under such situations it's normal to see such leaders indulge in such petty behaviour and grandstanding. You won't get any argument on that from me. I think the man is a clown and an embarrassment.
That being said, due to blatant confirmation bias, many people with other agendas here will focus much more on Trump's response.
But yet will conveniently overlook the almost equally bellicose statement that Kim made which is what instigated Trump's response. As childish as that response was.
In my opinion, Trump was punching down and shouldn't have responded. It doesn't change the fact that Kimmy's statement was very bellicose as well.
However, what we don't expect is for the leader of the worlds only superpower to also indulge in such small silly talk. Talk that is more common with poor weak developing countries leaders for obvious reason. For example you didn't see former American presidents , David Cameron/Theresa May, Merkel, Macron, Xi Jinping or even Putin etc etc indulge in such useless silly talk of bravado and chest thumping.
Reason people are so surprised to see Trump act so childishly. When you have a big stick(the worlds biggest stick by far) you don't need to go around making silly comments like this or indulging in such useless debate with such a third world country leader who the world knows is obsessed with such silly/useless talk while his people die of poverty and malnutrition everyday.
So I will expect such words from a poor country's leaders not from the leader of a major developed western country. As I said, it's those that have a small stick and who know they are insecure that talk so much(that's the only thing they have) . Big boys don't talk like that. Trump is an exception indeed, no American president has ever indulges in such constant small petty debates with a third world country dictator.
It's indeed embarrassing for the west.
Agree 100 %. That's also the point I was trying to makeDo you think that maybe people expect such statements from North Korea, but they don't expect such statements from the USA?
