Germany did well to take in all those millions of East Germans. They were akin to refugees they were in such a sorry state. I think Trump and his minions have an issue with Muslim refugees.

The East Germans were used as cheap labor for German corporations. After two decades the salaries evened out and they needed a new supply. So they saw an influx of immigrants as a way.

That is not the only reason. German birthrates have been plummeting since the 1970's. That is a huge demographic issue facing Germany.

I'm not surprised she was treated like this. One of the World leader's the Alt-Right (Bannon et al) hate the most is Merkel. They see her as complicit in sinking European civilization with her attitude towards immigration and refugees. There are other issues as well but these ones are significant in their thinking as well.

Also, Mrs. Merkel is an European leader..one does not have to agree or disagree with her policies... as an European Citizen I am horrified to witness this insult and disdain towards one of our leaders.

As I said, there is a Civilised norm and decorum for such events...by disregarding such protocols Mr. Trump has done great damage to the standing of his great country.

I find it sad state of affairs.

Anyhow, we in Europe are not in a position to demand equal treatment from D.C. They are the undisputed leader of the West. And so it is what it is.

Had anyone else shown such total disregard of diplomatic norms all of us Europeans will be up in arms and demanding Universal condemnations...

Can you imagine if a Chinese leader did such a thing even to a non-European head of state/PM? Our MSM will be out to get their head...

I am certain a Chinese leader will never ever show such total disregard of decorum though. It is against Confusian Ethics!
