What's new

Trump signs bill blocking transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey

1.. Turkey will have F35
2.. The US ( Boeing paid $600 million in compensation to Turkey for a much delayed multibillion dollar airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) program ..... this time the US will pay billions of dollars
3 .. Turkey doesnt need ammo for F-16s from the US ( Turkey has developed its own SOM Cruise Missile , LGK,KGK,HGK,NEB,TEBER laser guided and smart Bombs also BOZDOGAN and GOKDOGAN Air to Air Missiles and AKBABA anti radiation Missile are on the way ) and TAI can produce spare parts for F-16s even without American permission

Turkey has started to develop Turbofan Engine for TAI TFX Fighter Jet

Point 1 and 2, I standby to my opinion, let's wait and see.

3. I did not know Turkey can produce spare parts of F-16. What about engine?

4. Going alone, Turkey will need at least 20 years before they come up with a jet engine for TFX.

.
With the counter-measures that emerged after the US embargo period after 1974, the foundation of the existing Turkish defense industry was laid. It is not very difficult see by state-mind , how Turkey can create of transformation if US will choose again same way. That days the ropes did not break because the Soviet approach prevented it. But this time the ropes can break, because Russia is pursuing a more pragmatic foreign policy.

Turkey have 10-year risk range on its front. 10 years later, Turkey will have alternative than what the S400 system nor the F35 system. Even worse, these alternatives will be focused on indigenous R & D. However, the strategic space created by the US to abandon an infrastructure that can be formed in decades such as Kürecik BMDS, İncirlik and Marcom Mediterranean Command, and cutting ties over Central Asian Caucasian and African missions will give Russia a historic opportunity.

Israel does not want Turkey to have the F-35. Greece does not want. Some of Kushner's sweet biscuit's Arabs don't want it. Iran and Russia do not want. I know, you are having a great joy with latest news, but regretfully I have to say Turkey will receive its F-35s. Moreover, not only the conventional model, but STOVL F35s will be formalized in the orders within 2019.

People who believe that deepening relations since 1947 can suddenly break off because of the populist two leaders, unfortunately, have no idea about the Middle East-Caucasus region or the extent of Turkish-American relations.

TAI and TEI produced under license F-16 and Engine for decades , Turkey has technology to produce spare parts for F-16s
( btw Turkey develops ANKA-II and AKINCI UCAVs and HURJET to fight terrorism instead of F-16 ..... so there will be less flight hours of F-16s )

and 20 years ? Turkey needs only 12 years to develop turbofan Engine for TF-X
( Turkish TEI TS1400 Turboshaft Engine for Helicopters will be developed in 7-8 years period ... and only a few countries in the world )

"Under license" is the key here. Apart from the engine, there are many other parts, I am sure some components of those parts come from the US. Point is, if the US put a sanction of F-16 parts too, Turkey can not by itself keep the fleet operational.

I highly doubt Turkey can produce an engine for TFX in 12 years. Even a country like China with huge resources and technical know how, only managed to make engines for fighters recently.

Anyway, I have no ill intention for Turkey. Just raising some points for Turkey to be careful.

We are here... It happened to us in 4th gen era... We now have 4+ gen planes plus looking at home grown 5th gen....

Miracles are possible dont lose hope my turkish friends

We very well knows about our potential , and dont compare copycat China with Turkey
Russia,Ukraine and France helped China to develop even Turboshaft gas turbine engine

I am saying again Turkish TEI TS1400 Turboshaft Engine for Helicopters will be developed in 7-8 years period
and ISMAIL DEMIR ( President of Defense Industries ) said that Turkey will develop turbofan Engine in 10 years

and Turkey has technology to produce components for F-16 engine including blisk-spool technologies ( only 7 Engine companies in the world and Turkish TEI is one of them )

also Turkish KALE AERO produce most critical parts of F-135 Engine for F35 Fighter Jets

Lets not go over board with chest thumping, we still need to produce something before talking.

.
Turkey produced Turbojet,Turboprob and Turboshaft Engines ( only a few countries in the world )
also there will be advanced variants of Turbojet,Turboprob and Turboshaft Engines

and in 2018 TRMOTOR has signed an agreement to develop Turbofan Engine ,,, in 12 years Turbofan Engine will be ready

Turkey has developed all started military projects , not even one failed project

Ok, tell me exactly why Turkey needs NATO, who in its surrounding is an existencial threat?
And tell me what NATO is gonna do when it looses control over the straits? I think you underestimate Turkeys importance even for Israels security.

Why does NATO need Turkey to fight Russia ?

you are too small to survive on your own. you need friends and allies

I don't follow this whole situation. But every few days we have a thread like this which makes me wonder why turkey actually needs f35 so badly .
They can do for other option or their own fight jet would be ready soon. Why beg us and America .

I dont know if the question is rhetoric but i will answer anyways.
How about blocking the black sea fleet for a starter?
The number of NATO installations alone tells enough about Turkeys importance.

And last but not least the geographical importance, Turkey is on the crossroad of Europe-Asia, North-South. Just across Russias soft underbelly.
People here greatly underestimate Turkeys importance for NATO, the fraction that has Turkey on his side has the key to the region, i suggest you guys to look at the maps again.

Shore based aircraft from Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria can wipe out Black Sea fleet in minutes. The Black Sea is not an ocean. it is a lake for all practical purposes. There is nothing stopping Ukraine from joining NATO. Where is the Black Sea fleet going to go ?? Into the Mediterranean. NATO naval assets can blast the Strait of Dardnelles.

Proximity to Cacausus, Iran and Arab world cannot be duplicated. I see Turkey's value. But then NATO was meant as a mutual defense treaty against Soviet Union not to meddle in the Middle East.

What stops Ukraine to join NATO? Countries that have territorial disputes cant join, Ukraine was about to join NATO but Russia disturbed it by igniting separatist movement and annexing Crimea. The same game with Georgia. After the recent east expansion of NATO Russia had to act and stop it as long as it can.
Dont think so shallow when its about geopolitics, its deeper than just black and white.

Still good to have assets in the region, NATO long left its role of counter balance to soviet union but the same forces still struggle for power, do you really think the war in Syria is about democracy?

if push comes to shove the West can and will admit Ukraine. there is not much anyone can do about it.

Syria is about a clan ruling the country for 4 decades. a lot of Syrians are pissed off about the clan. outsiders like to fish in troubled waters.
