Truman Carrier Strike Group Enters U.S. 5th Fleet To Begin Anti-ISIS Operations

.
The part about a French ship being flag shouldn't be under estimated.
America is quite jealous of its prerogatives. This first was acknowledged
by the USN central command et al. :
France Takes Command of NAVCENT Task Force 50
Lafayette Returns! | Navy Live
This is not a fluke!

Add the exercise just ending at Langley concerned with totally interoperable targeting chains
in network centric high intensity scenario with the 3 best fighters of the West and wonder!

That's not a passing alliance thing. It runs much deeper. The other side(s) should take notes!

Good day all, Tay.

. . .
On one hand I'm against bombing and the idea of civilian casualties, and a lack of an end solution.

On the other hand, I feel like saying:

'Go kick some ISIS-@ss, get 'em good... and tell them, Jungibaaz sent ya!' :guns:

Done.
Also, no tag for your old pal?
when has there ever been a war where civilians dont die, never.

Lijar vs. France? 100 years running and still no casualties:

  • In 1883, the citizens of Lijar, a small village in southern Spain were infuriated when they heard reports that, while visiting Paris, the Spanish king, Alfonso XII had been insulted and even attacked in the streets by Parisian mobs. In response, the mayor of Lijar, Don Miguel Garcia Saez, and all 300 citizens of Lijar declared war on France on October 14, 1883. Not a single shot was fired, and not a single casualty sustained on either side during the confrontation, but despite the anticlimactic war, Mayor Saez was declared “The Terror Of The Sierras,” for his exploit. A full ninety-three years later, in 1976, King Juan-Carlos of Spain made a trip to Paris, during which he was treated with great respect by the citizens of the French capital. In 1981, the town council of Lijar ruled that “in view of the excellent attitude of the French,” they would end hostilities and agree to a ceasefire with France.

The Pig War claimed one pig. The war lasted 4 months:

  • Another British/American war, The Pig War was started when a British infantryman shot a pig that was wandering on American soil. The local American militia responded by gathering at the border and waiting for the British to make a move. Eventually the British apologized and the brief war ended, leaving the pig as the only casualty.

The Three Hundred And Thirty-Five Year War - it's actual name - lasted that long and didn't claim a single soul. Everyone forgot they were at war. A peace treaty in 1986 formally ended "hostilities" between the two "waring" sides the Netherlands and the Isle of Sicily:

  • This war was fought between the Netherlands and the Isle of Scilly, which is located off the southwest coast of Great Britain. The war started in 1651, but like many wars of that era it was not taken seriously and soon forgotten about. Three centuries passed before the two countries finally agreed to a peace treaty in 1986, making their war the longest in human history.

...

That's all I could come up with. At lease three actual wars have ended without civilian deaths.

True. But there are many arguments to be made against bombing.
The only thing that prevents me from completely dismissing bombing, is ironically, the only thing that also stops me from supporting it; I see no endgame.

Your heart is like that of an Injil, my friend. May Allah bless you with more purity.

what can you do. you bomb them and civilan die with them, or you dont and the terrorist flurish.

to be quiet honets it also depends on who doing the bombing.

i prefer it if the russiains were left to it on their own. the usa is double dealing. they are "accidently" attacking the syrian army which are attacking isis. and have you noticed they have not gone no where near the oil feilds where isis makes their money from. ad the russian are making plans to attack them once iraq gives them the green light to go into their airspace and make hell.

I've never felt so conflicted on where to go on an issue in my life I think. I think this is because I know that no solution with some sort of conclusive result is available or indeed proposed for use.

On one hand you can't leave ISIS as it is, it will mean prolonged suffering without an end for those who live under it. So some action against it is definitely needed. You can't leave the Russians to have at it, they will simply back Assad who himself has murdered many, and whose war is causing conditions in which ISIS like groups flourish. You can't have our solution only, it leaves out the Russians and Iranians, and ultimately hates but is deeply confused about Assad. Bombing will only do so much, the ground victories are where it counts, but troops on the ground from us will strengthen the ISIS cause and mean we will have to fight insurgencies again, especially if the whole nation building process is undertaken too, not to mention for ground intervention, I have not yet considered Russia or Iran, or Iran and Saudi/GCC angles. So then do we bomb without end indefinitely, which not only kills civilians, it creates situations in which sure, their troops die and their physical ability reduces, but their message and cause strengthen.

All this we've discussed without even considering, the Kurdish angle, and therefore the immediate future of said people with Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq. We've not mentioned the numerous other groups like Al-Nusra, various FSA factions, and many of whom are terrorists too.

This is easily the most complex war we've seen in our lifetimes. It is easy to support bombings, very easy. But I truly see no solution, even if by some miracle, bombings do exactly what we want them to do. The ultimate solution has to be realized with a consensus between neighbouring and regional powers, which is fraught with difficulty, the Saudis/GCC, the Iranians all hate each other, and if there is to be any effective intervention it will have to come from them. But not only do I doubt their ability to come together, I also doubt their competence in war.

One hell of a confusing war this is. I think any of our leaders that looks at this and says this is easy, is either lying or a clueless idiot, and in both cases they'd be doing a disservice to everyone involved, even if that everyone includes ISIS.

It's eye-rolling. Under Clinton the U.S. refused France's demands that it take command of the Sixth Fleet as the price for France's full integration into NATO. Now we've handed France the Sixth Fleet to do with what they wish.

5th Solomon buddy not 6th.
And Sarko got the Allied Transformation Command instead for what you described,
negotiated under GWB in 2007 but signed under Obama in 2009.

Good evening, Tay.

The Fremm Provence of the French navy integrated the strike group in the area and is actually participating in the protection of the CDG. The Fremm Aquitaine will also join by January.
