Normalcy is returning to Buner, people have started harvesting their crops and shops are reopening in the district: ISPR.—AFP

ISLAMABAD: The army claimed on Wednesday that security forces had gained a foothold in Peochar valley, the stronghold of Taliban leader Maulana Fazlullah, and were targeting militants’ hideouts there.

According to an ISPR update on the Swat operation, 11 militants, including commander Naseeb Rehman, were killed in different areas of the valley over the past 24 hours. Four soldiers were also killed and 12 others injured during the operation.

It said that consolidation of positions continued at Banai Baba Ziarat and Bariam bridge. A swathe from Khwazakhela to Bariam bridge and Chakdara-Gulabad road were cleared of militants.

‘Normalcy is returning to Buner. People have started harvesting their crops and shops are reopening in the district. All preparations are in place to clear Sultanwas of militants,’ the update said.

Meanwhile, five decapitated bodies were found in different areas of Mingora, the main city of Swat, and 32 militants and an army captain were killed in Lower Dir over the past 24 hours.

Local people said that militants were killing rivals and throwing their bodies around the city to terrorise people trapped in their homes because of curfew and the presence of the Taliban.

They said that militants were freely roaming around the city and warning people against leaving Swat. In order to avoid collateral damage in the populous Mingora, security forces have shifted their operation to Peochar.

Sources said that there would be a face-to-face battle if security forces entered Mingora because militants were preparing for a final showdown.

In Lower Dir, 15 militants were killed when helicopter gunships fired missiles at a mother-child health centre near Battano, in Kityari area of Adenzai tehsil.

The centre was occupied by the Taliban militants some days ago. Local people said the bodies were still lying at the centre.

Security forces said that helicopters had also attacked the house of the father-in-law of a local Taliban commander in the village of Khuni Dhand, killing eight militants hiding there.

Helicopter gunships pounded militant hideouts in Barori, Kityari, Khunidag, Jangu and Tehdodag areas in the outskirts of Chakdara. Troops set up a checkpost in Tendodag.

Nine militants and an army captain were killed in fighting in Hayaserai area of Maidan late on Tuesday night. Troops destroyed 24 houses in the area.

These houses were abandoned by local people and occupied by the Taliban.

.
slowly but surely, these militants are going to either die fighting or get pushed back in to the waziristans for the final battle!

That seems to be the plan.
However,PA has to sit in strength in SWAT for many months and further damage the TTP cells during winter when they have no bases to seek shelter in SWAT.
Better to make Peochar an Army Base...Peochar Cantt...Swat.

Dear all
It feels very nice to hear that some of you want Army to remove those barbarians and fight the long battle but don't forget what will happen to the people of swat who are living in camps, will they wait for so long? I am afraid if there are not quick results of the army operation , the people of Swat will start protests on roads and in main cities. Time is running out , whatever is to be done, must be done quickly.
Now fighting in Swat is not a child play. The strategy of Taliban surely is to hide and buy time as they can't afford to confront the regular army face to face and no body knows those mountains better than them.
I expect very difficult times for the government and army but at the same time i pray to Allah that such would not happen and the army can throw those barbarians and throat cutters in hell in no time.

I'll only comment on the insurgency problem and my reply may be bit off road but i feel it.
Half of our problems can be solved and that's the only solution i can think of is to close the border with Afghanistan by mining or whatever means etc. This is the only way we can stop/delay the evil aims of our enemies. I know its very difficult because world powers along with Afghanistan,India etc will not let it happen very easily because they have evil desires for Pakistan that everyone knows about.
The whole 9/11 drama was planned to first destroy Iraq and then Pakistan as Afghanistan is just a path for that, those American have eyes on us, so they are moving in the right direction with proper planing.
Al-Qaeda and Osama are just like toys being controlled by Americans. They place those toys anyplace in the world which they want to destroy and after destroying that place , they move those toys to some new place which they want to be destroyed. Now its Pakistan turn.
I am not sure about the capabilities of our political leaderships and i have no trust in them and how can i trust them when a person who is the most corrupt one in the history of Pakistan is at the top position and same is the case with other key posts.

brother i disagree. No body wants to kill its own citizens for some intrests which can easitly be achieved by other ways.. So admit that 911 was not a drama. it was atrocity commited by Al Qaida.
dont forget the crulity they showed in bamyan......

i have been advocating the building of cantonments in all of swat and FATA. if there is a requirement to raise another Corps HQ, it is here in the FATA/Swat area. there will then be a quick and rapid response if and when required.

in addition, this Corps HQ should be the lead-in Counter-Insurgency training facility.

there will be no complaints about not moving troops from the east.

the sooner its done, the better!:enjoy:

You don't think the Taliban are the revolution, and we're seeing it now?

Yes, Pakistan's elite has been exploiting the country for decades. If the nation's integrity and well-being had been priority #1 there would still be an East Pakistan, and the Swat deal with the Taliban would never have been consummated. But is laying it all on America's door justified? American leaders know that the best thing for Pakistan is improved governance. But Pakistan's leaders are not our puppets, and they don't always follow our advice or kow-tow to our wishes.

The current offensive against the Taliban is a prime example. There isn't one Western leader or political columnist I know of who supported the Swat deal. But Agnostic Muslim, saddamed, and others here thought it was necessary so a large number of the Pakistani people could experience for themselves just how awful the Taliban are. Then the PA could go on the offensive.

If America was running things we would surely have insisted on no Swat deal and an immediate PA offensive. That would have avoided the grief of the hundreds of thousands of civilians who have fled Taliban areas. But that might also have created resentment among the Pakistani population for fighting "America's War" and even increased support for the Taliban.

So a deal with the Taliban was cut and now Pakistan has maybe a million DPs. Would this have had to happen if Pakistanis weren't suffering from the disease of anti-Americanism?
