ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s top security brass has ordered a thorough probe into the involvement of India in the growing militancy in Waziristan and other tribal areas after receiving intelligence reports illustrating links between RAW and militant organisations.

“The intelligence reports from tribal areas show the involvement of India’s main spy agency, RAW in fomenting anti-Pakistan feelings there and the initial investigations from the recently arrested militants during the Hangu operation also suggest the same,” said a senior official here on Saturday requesting anonymity.

The reports, he said were credible enough to be accepted but still a thorough probe had been ordered involving a joint group of country’s main security agencies that would determine the nature of links and cooperation between the militants and Indian spy agency.

“Much so much, he said there were also reports about the most influential Taliban Commander, Baitullah Mehsud’s links with RAW but again that had to be established and verified and we could not say anything before the completion of probe initiated in this regard,” the official added.

With four and half years down the road to initiation of Indo-Pak peace process back in January 2004, the arch rival nuclear states seem to be drifting again towards the path of confrontation.

The neighbouring states could not resolve Kashmir, Siachen or any other issue on the agenda devised for the peace process but they managed to opt for restrain while maintaining a cease-fire on the Line of Control in Kashmir since 2003.

However, the violations of cease-fire resurfaced recently with both sides blaming each other for firing at their troops stationed at the LoC.
Another official here when contacted admitted that things were not moving in the right direction on the front of Indo-Pak ties as they were few months ago. He confirmed the reports of India’s involvement in the ongoing unrest and strife in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

“The issue is very serious and we are going to take it up with India soon along with a warning that it could bring irreparable harm to the ongoing peace process between the two states,” he added.

This has been going along, however i have my doubts with the current regime that it will do anything or perhaps adopt a strong stance with India. It should be pretty evident how much India is interested in a stabilized Pakistan because despite of on going peace process and the CBM being taken, India is not one bit interested in it and a very reason why India keeps on backing away from the IPI project because if that project goes on, India will have to rethink about this proxy war against Pakistan. Another factor that needs to be taken into account is the afghan regime of Karzai. IMO it has now become even more necessary that we tell the US in simple words to stop this nonsense going on from your administered territory otherwise we will have no choice but to reconsider our commitment regarding WOT. The ball needs to be thrown back to the US court.

True and sad. When will we have real leaders, but then again our awaam brought them in, certainly the lack of education is pretty evident, no one has a clue about whats going on other then in their own house.

Excellent. More people people need to be made aware of all the hostile forces supporting militant movements in the region. Looking forward to all the details implicating RAW/India in the taliban insurgency against pakistan.

ISLAMABAD ( 2008-07-31 00:34:16 ) :Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, Rehman Malik on Wednesday rejected a US media report over the links between Pakistan's intelligence agency and militants. The Advisor asked India to cut its relations with Baitullah Mehsud.

A New York Times report said that a top Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) official confronted senior Pakistani officials with evidence showing that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency has links with some militant groups, which are responsible for increasing violence in Afghanistan.

According to media reports, Rehman said, "It is a well-organized plan to target ISI,"

"ISI is a national organization and has played a key role in the war on terror and extremism and national intelligence agencies are working in right direction," said Mailk.

The Guardian reported that a Taliban commander, Baitullah Masood, has threatened to deploy suicide bombers against her, but Benazir said that the real threat came from within the military establishment.

“I’m not worried about Baitullah Masood, I’m worried about the threat within the government,” she said, adding, “People like Baitullah Masood are just pawns. It is those forces behind him that have presided over the rise of extremism and militancy in my country.”

She singled out as her most potent enemy retired military officers “who have fought the jihad”.

“They have a lot of supporters and sympathisers within the echelons of administration and intelligence,” Christian Science Monitor quoted her, as saying in the report.

Reacting to Benazir’s allegation, a government minister called it a “ridiculous claim.”

Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been made for her returns to Pakistan on Thursday. Thousands of security forces and bulletproof cars will be used to shield her. (ANI)

One more govt spokesperson has come out to firmly and clearly state that both India and Afghanistan are involved in destabalizing FATA. This new govt needs to name names and point fingers instead of whining about nameless faceless "forces" and other wishy washy stuff. First step is to name the rats behind the mischief and then warn the rats and start pressuring them.

WASHINGTON, July 30: India and Afghanistan are stirring troubles in Fata and Balochistan, Rehman Malik, adviser to the prime minister on interior, told journalists on Wednesday.

Mr Malik also blamed India for indulging in “baseless propaganda” against Pakistan although Pakistan itself was a victim of terrorism.

“The time has come for us to reveal the facts and tell the world how outside forces are creating troubles in Pakistan.”

When pressed to identify the outside forces, he named India, Afghanistan’s Northern Alliance, Chechens and Uzbeks who he said were using Pakistan to serve their vested interests.

“India,” he said, “wants to destabilise Fata. What India and (Afghan President) Mr Karzai are doing must stop. They must stop this. They must stop this.”

He also appealed to Pakistan’s western allies, including the United States, to stop India and Afghanistan.

Although Pakistan has always blamed foreign hands for stirring troubles in Balochistan and the NWFP, this is the first time since the Feb 18 election that a senior government official has directly blamed India.

Mr Malik said that India and Afghanistan had direct links to people like Barhamdagh Bugti and “one call from outside leads to the death of four people in Balochistan”.

Asked if his statement was on the record, he said: “Yes, I am not afraid of anyone.”

Honestly for too long this 'blame game' has been one sided, with the Indians just ratcheting up the propaganda every chance they get.

With no signs of letting up from the Indian side, it is about time that Pakistan started pitching a fit about this publicly and at every forum they get a chance.
