Lt. General Mushtaq was a very down to earth man...i met him few times when he was Brigadier(serving in CMH, Rawalpindi). Once during the checkup when there was time for maghrib prayer he cameout & asked patients to wait for few minutes and offer prayer in the room next to his office.

In a nutshell he was really a very simple man even with Three Stars, May Allah Bless His Soul, Amen!

I was seeking information upon Lt. Gen Mushtaq Ahmed Baig Shaheed and arrived on this thread. I believe this person must be highlighted once again.

From WikiPedia:

Lt.Gen.Mushtaq_Ahmad_Baig.jpg

While in the army, Baig was progressively elevated in rank while holding a variety of assignments. Having been promoted to Major General in 2003, he was made commandant of Army Medical College Rawalpindi. Baig is credited for implementing revolutionary changes in the Medical services in the Pakistani Armed Forces. He was the leader in making improvements in the medical services in the Air Force and the Navy as well. In 2006, Baig was awarded the second-highest military award, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz–Military. That same year, he was promoted to Lieutenant General. In 2007, he was made the Surgeon-General of the Pakistani Army, and was promoted to Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical Corps.

On Monday, 25 February 2008, General Baig was on his way home when a teenage suicide bomber targeted his vehicle. The attack resulted in his death as well those of 8 nearby civilians, with another dozen injured. The suicide bomber struck when Baig's car was stopped at a traffic light.

President Parvez Musharraf and care-taker Prime Minister Muhammad Mian Soomro strongly condemned the attack. The President and the Prime Minister said such heinous acts of violence cannot deter the government from its resolve in continuing its fight against terrorism. President Musharraf spoke highly of Baig, and described him as an exceptional officer of high caliber who showed remarkable commitment to serving humanity.

This man was not killed by the talibz. It was an inside job to get rid of all the honest generals who could become a hurdle in near future for supporting US policies etc. Remember, the airplane few years back that killed almost all the generals in pak army that opposed musharaf and his policies..

Hi,
You people praise a man who should have been court martialled and expelled fromn the service for dereliction of duty---not following the procedure and orders---not taking precautions against threats to general staff---.

He was given a notification that there was a arndom attack expected on flag officers and not to go out with his uniform on---he dis-obeyed a direct order and instruction and did not do enough to protect the life of the general that he was---.

Untill and unless people like him are not fired when living or their properties confiscated in case of their careless acts---you paks will always suffer---just like the general who died in the mosque---if not a pistol---if he only had a combat knife on him---would have died like a warrior---.

These generals are a disgrace to the millitary and the nation they serve----.

This actually is a great example of what a bad foundation of the system is----not taking the threat seriously---.

Are you talking about ACM Mushaf Mir----if you are---then he was one of the 4 mentioned during an interrogation of an al qaeda operative to the saudis---3 others were princes of saudia---they all died mysterious deaths as did Mushaf---.

Thank you for your concern, and input, but 'We Paks' would do as we feel pleased and appropriate. Anyone who disagrees with it, or 'Us Paks' own a passport and can chose a 'clean country' without any sort of corruption (if they find one). Your comment was appreciated, but I would have been more pleased with someone holding a 'Green passport'.

Taking a knife or any other weapon to a mosque for friday prayer inside Parade Lane? A very good suggestion.

Why don't we all carry a machete with us all the time as well while we are at it.

Somebody made up their mind to kill him, they would not have stopped. Uniform or no uniform, it isn't that difficult to spot a Surgeon General of PA. Remember, these folks do a lot of recce before actually striking. The generals movement, timing, escort, his stop at the signal etc would all have been carefully monitored.

You can spot generals' wives coming in civilian plate cars in Chaklala market!!! Not too difficult then to monitor an escorted star officer coming out of CMH.

.
Sir,

When your enemy attacks you in the mosque without prejudice and without any discretion and not taking any measures against it is a dereliction of duty to the nation and to your Allah as well.

An honest living person serves his LORD and his nation---for a nation to prosper----you need more honest and hard working men alive---rather than dead---the weak and the poor and the suffering needed that DOCTOR more than he knew---.

Until and unless the paks don't learn to appreciate life---as the Prophet mentioned---they will have a very weak foundation.

Don't you people want good and honest men to be alive---good and honest men to lead you---so what happens when these good men die---either of their arrogance or some thick headed beliefs that they have---then the average and bad people come in and fill up those vacancies---and when the average and pathetic fill in the void---then you have a pakistan what is in front of you---.

Last Hope---paks don't live in vaccuum---they live in this real world---hiding under the rocks when you don't like comments ain't gonna work.

Real men and women listen and learn---. When you feel insulted---degraded and humiliated---that is the time to step back----close your eyes for a moment and take a deep breath and start to think---why is it that the nation has issues---why is it that there are a mountain of problems---and the mountain is getting higher and higher and we are getting buried deeper and deeper into the muck---.

When you are angry and you cannot think straight, because you feel somebody insulted your honor and national integrity and you see red in front of your eyes and you want to tear them apart---what good is it going to do---nothing---.

I am telling you about permanent solutions---you want instant gratification---my good man---it does not work like that---to be a free and a prosperous nation---you have to pay a very heavy price---and that price is of EGO---once you let go of it---the world is a different place.

nuclearpak,

It is very easy to make pak generals follow the guidelines---you just have to do the russian thing to them----.

As for machette---that is a 'silly comment'---. A soldier is used to carrying a combat knife on his person and an officer must be used to carrying a concealed handgun---.

You kids are barking at the wrong tree---yell at these generals to be more security conscious to the best of their abilities and be ready and prepared.

Taking a pistol to a mosque for Friday prayer inside Parade lane in 2009? That would be great!

So what you have done if you were in place of the Surgeon general?

Evident way as in...???

Not going to CMH? Not going in a car but by Rickshaw? Not with a security detail? Not gone out with a signboard on his head saying Surgeon General Pak Army?
