Sangam era Tamil "Gods and Goddesses" when analyzed, have parallels in Vedic Brahmanism/Sanskrit e.g Murugan = Subramanya/Karthikeya , Mayon/Tiru-Peru Maal/Kannan = Krishna/Vishnu, Sivan/Sevel/Seyon = Rudra, Kadaalon= Varuna.

The entire worship of the gods/goddess began with the Tamils and later transformed / morphed into Vedic Aryan deities (e.g tribal god Ayappan (Puri Jagannath) hijacked and incorporated into Vedic Brahmanism by 9th AD Brahmin Jew , Adi Sankara ), by adding new legends /myths (purans) to their old legends, thus accommodating indigenous polytheistic (dualistic) Tamil religious/beliefs into the monotheistic (Brahman) Aryan beliefs/rituals.
