What's new

traders going on strike,,,,,,, again

This thing & more happened in 2014 too. So, this is Karma...

Every government wants to push reforms and opposition tries to cash-out on the discontent.

It would not be amiss to recount how PTI & PPP blocked every move to privatize Steel Mills & PIA, the two gargantuan Albatrosses around Pakistan's neck.

Good leaders build consensus across party lines. Bad leaders call others bad names and refuse to engage. One can see where this goes.

Maybe it's time to crush the opposition and lock them up behind bars so that they can't disrupt the reforms. It doesnt seem that the traders can challenge the government and coerce it to step back on their own. They will rely on support and politics from opposition.

Maybe when you grow up a little and develop an IQ you will understand why the economy is the way it is today. Hint, it is not because of the current government of just 1.3 years.

Protesters vow to continue sit-in till their demands aren't met

ISLAMABAD: Police used water cannons to disperse Basic Education Community Schools (BESC) teachers on Wednesday at D-Chowk.

The BESC teachers were protesting over non-payment of salaries. They also demanded the government to upgrade their status as permanent employees.

When the government called on the teachers to end their protest, they started marching towards the Parliament House. Police used water cannons to halt protesters.

The defiant teachers said that their protest would continue till their demands were not accepted by the government.

“We have taught children in far-flung areas,” said one teacher. “Compensation is our right.”

Another teacher said that he had not received compensation since the past eight months.

The BECS teachers said that no government representative came to their sit-in protest to negotiate terms with them. They said that till their demands weren’t met, their sit-in protest at D-Chowk would continue.

Electronics traders to observe shutter down strike on October 29, 30
By Kazim Raza Rizvi28-Oct-2019
KARACHI: The Karachi Electronics Dealers Association (KEDA) has announced to join All Pakistan Traders Association and all the markets in Karachi would observe complete shutter down strike on October 29 and 30, 2019.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, President KEDA Rizwan Irfan said wrong policies and government’s apathy towards the problems being faced by business community had significantly reduced business activity in the country.

He said the business community could not afford to pay any additional tax as inflation and devaluation of currency had already hit them hard.

Country’s business community will observe a two-day shutter down strike on October 29 and 30 against the imposition of taxes, and warned to expand the protest if the condition of presenting a CNIC copy for buying and selling goods is not withdrawn.

Rizwan said the demands were the same which they had been pushing since the announcement of federal budget. “The authorities are only using delaying tactics and they have not met any single of our demands.”

The traders are protesting against the 17 percent Sales Tax in VAT mode, higher turnover tax, provision of CNIC copy on transactions of Rs50,000 and above and several other taxes.

Traders are of the view that additional taxes had increased prices adversely impacting their sales and business.

We, overseas have our parents, siblings, relatives, friends and roots in Pakistan. So Pakistan is our as much as it's yours.

To be fair, privatizing state-owned enterprises isn't always the solution.

In Pakistan, we should generally be aware that such sell-offs are suspicious until proven otherwise. In other words, you can have the gov't sell these assets off for cheap to friends/families or predatory outsiders, and in turn, pocket the money for themselves and let the industry corrode further.

Personally, I'd rather push heavy-handed reforms across all state-owned enterprises. Gut the labor through either attrition or firing, put corporate leaders in charge, create a barrier between business governance and the gov't, and let them return to profitability. In turn, shift a manageable % of the profits to the state treasury, reviewable every 5 or 10 years, and maintain it.

Australians Canadians Americans Europeans contribute around 32% of total overseas remittances, rest comes mainly from GCC.

Err ... thats why we keep on saying that you need to develop your IQ, try it at least for once. Otherwise, you will continue to embarrass yourself.

Checkout how much overseas Pakistani's gave towards Dam funds. Also, do some research and find out how much contribution we do in other disastrous situations i.e. earthquakes in Pakistan.

Imran niazi has destroyed flourishing economy of Pakistan. Just look at the auto sector. Industry has shut down(temporary but still).
Auto sector collapsed bcoz of the mishandling of big 3 and the cartel that they had made over 2 to 3 decades.
The risibg dollar simply nade thecars too expensive and u know why bcoz the deketion program that they follow is not based upon value of the car or the percentage of car made in pakistan but the no of car parts made in pakistan..
So lets say a door is made up of 14 parts... Dashboard of 50 parts.. So without touching the engine u cud still end up making 40% car in pakistan.
Leave current government aside.. If u have to blame then put the blame where its due.. Previous governments who agreed to this ridiculous idea or demand
