While I understand your argument, its all about perception. There are more mass shootings in the US than anywhere else in the world but its still deemed safer than a lot of other countries, including Pakistan.

The image of a country being safe or unsafe is not related to number of terrorist attacks only. People think of the bigger picture, all the hype created by media about a country, and it doesn't really matter what is true and what isn't.

And since the guy was australian, cancel all trip to australia as well.
Also heard some bunch of muslims were abused in england, so cancel all trips to england as well. Its not safe there.
