Couple of games that I have liked (apart from others mentioned here) for RTS fans.
Stonghold: Crusaders.

If you are into castle building and medieval era games then there is nothing better than this one. Amazing level of detail. A must play.

Codename: Panzers
The company of heroes game play is quite a bit inspired from this. Very very well done Tank battles.

But, by that logic, it would be perfectly normal for a 50 year old woman to play with a barbie.
