Then they can blame government for not banning such acts. Government should put more tax on luxury instead of necessaties.

Do you have any idea how much of India's agricultural produce gets wasted even before it reaches the consumer on average? It's 40% according to UN estimates. When millions of tons of essential commodities are getting wasted and not enough has been done, gunning for someone who brought a few hundred kgs of tomatoes at market prices is an indication of hypocrisy and selective dispensation of justice. Mind you, I'm not condoning their actions, but neither am I supporting any extra-judicial action against them.

There is a difference between what gets wasted due to inefficiencies and whats wasted purposely.
This will give wrong impression to those who can afford to waste natural resources.

Tomorrow if a rich person deploys power consuming device which soaks up all the electricity in your neighborhood, resulting in a situation where either you are unable to get electricity due to lack of availability or you have to pay through your nose to get minimal part. What would you feel then?

You seem to think that price rise is the result of demand outstripping production. IT ISN'T.

Price rise has more to do with middlemen and production getting wasted during the supply and storage phase than any consumer actually buying unreasonable quantity and thus depriving someone else.

Have you found any evidence to say that this Tomatina festival resulted in local tomato prices shooting up over other regions?

Please read the local news papers of gujarat, like Sandesh you will find the tomato rates which where 70-80rs per kg sky rocketed to 100-120rs per kg due the festival causing scarcity in market. The supply comes from nearby villages and food belt for the city.
Organizers didnt import it, they bought it from these regional suppliers , resulting into scarcity in local market. Demand Supply imbalance played its economics.

The article itself mentions that Tomatoes are priced at Rs 100 per kg, not 70-80. And if the organizers bought those tomatoes directly from local farmers, it all the better. Because usually, it's the useless middlemen who runaway with the moolah while adding no value to the supply chain. And if some article mentions that demand for a few tons of tomatoes can cause large price fluctuations in their market price, then they obviously have no idea what they're talking about.

Its not a private mall, its govt owned with all modern facilities. Majorly catering to Agricultural Production and related Food items.

Read here more about it

Gujarat is land of co-operatives and generally producers here reach consumers directly.
Middle man are not always that bad, they are very much required to make last mile connectivity.
