The farmer never gets his due, its the middle man who makes the money during food price inflation.

Price rise should be natural, not artificial due to hoarding or speculative trading on food items in commodity exchanges.

Get educated on how the system works before offering suggestions.

Letting them know that their actions are in bad taste is fine, but I'm not in favour of empowering any extrajudicial systems though.

Besides, it raises the same dilemmas that socialism ideally seeks to prevent and capitalism revels in. Flaunting wealth in front of those less privileged is distasteful, but it's simply tolerated. I see parallels with that in this case. In a land where many a family is forced to go hungry, wasting food for fun is obviously distasteful, but it needs to be tolerated, simply because the person indulging in such antics has not broken any laws and is the one bearing all expenses.

They are not required to "donate" those tomatoes.

Just not waste them. Even the poor buy food in India. They do not live on hand outs.

Its a concept similar to not leaving food in the plate when you are finished eating. Not throwing food in the dustbin. Not wasting food. Because millions go hungry everyday. Not just in India.

A concept similar to not wasting water, or conserving energy or reducing your carbon footprint or not burning petrol even though you can afford it.

Any waste, be it Ambani or cherawala is a sin against society.

You do not need religion to teach you social responsibility. That is what parental guidance and upbringing come into play. That being said, they are kids. Expecting them to act like adults would be something of a stretch. All you will have to see is how many things have I wasted as a teen to realize that everyone goes through this phase. The amount of dismembered toys I see in my study makes me cry over the amount of money I wasted as a child. That realization today is as worthless as spilled milk or smashed tomatoes.
