Tokyo Olympics: Badminton duo clinch first medal of Games for Malaysia

TOKYO — Badminton men's doubles duo Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik clinched a bronze medal for Malaysia, after they defeated second-seeded Indonesians Hendra Setiawan and Mohamad Ahsan 17-21, 21-17, 21-14 at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza on Saturday (31 July).

This is Malaysia's first medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

American shotputter Raven Saunders has explained her gesture on the podium after winning Olympic silver on Sunday.

She is one of many athletes who has spoken openly about her mental health and her openness has won her a cult following on social media, as has her Hulk- and Joker-inspired face masks.

I usually take a bit of a standoffish outlook at athletes who use their sports success to promote their social or any type or injustice or cause that is clearly outside the scope of the spirit of competition and sports in general. But I do take a look at the subject matter first before deciding whether to appreciate it or disregard it and in this case, she did it in a very subtle and appreciable way without letting it get the better part of that spirit of competition and the fact that she is representing the United States. So good for her as mental health is a very serious illness that has and is impacting millions of people around the world. Good post, sir.

Speaking of the US, it had a pretty good day and leading the overall medal count with 59 and only 4 behind China in Gold medals.

American basketball star Elena Delle Donne's drug test revealed that she had also used amphetamine. In addition, since 2014 she has been taking hydrocortisone that is also classified as doping.

Serena Williams, world's top tennis player, is taking oxycodone and hydromorphone (opioids), prednisone, prednisolone, and methylprednisolone as well. Her sister Venus Williams is used to take prednisone, prednisolone, triamcinolone and formoterol.


This is just the tip of the iceberg. Today's sport is truly contaminated while the world is unaware of a large number of American doping athletes.
