Will India sell military hardware, including BrahMos cruise missiles, to Vietnam? The move, which will definitely be viewed as hostile by China, will be the key point of discussion during Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's two day visit to India, which starts tomorrow.

Equipping Vietnam - which is at the forefront of the escalating confrontation in South China Sea - with BrahMos may be interpreted by Beijing as a direct military intervention. BrahMos is primarily an anti-ship missile. (Read: China, Vietnam Say Want Lasting Solution to Sea Dispute)

The previous UPA government had refused to sell military hardware to Vietnam. The question that confronts the Narendra Modi-led NDA government now is whether it would bite the bullet. (Read: South-East Asian, Latin American Nations Express Interest in Acquiring BrahMos Missile)

Despite objections from China and the dispute about territorial limits in the South China Sea, India has fished in troubled waters, acquiring two oil blocks from Vietnam. And though China claims they are within its territorial waters, India has persisted with the exploration despite finding them commercially unviable.(Read: India May Explore Oil in South China Sea)

As New Delhi widens the arc of its "Look- East" policy - building long-term strategic engagement in trade and military - Vietnam is emerging as one of key pillars.

Last month, days before Chinese Premier Xi Jingping visited India, India had extended extended a $100 million (around Rs. 600 crore) export credit to Vietnam for defence deals during the visit of President Pranab Mukerjee.

At the end of his four-day visit, the two countries, in a joint statement, said the credit line would allow increased defence cooperation and details of what Vietnam would buy from India will soon be finalised. (Read: President Pranab Mukherjee Leaves for Vietnam)

Although New Delhi is tightlipped, sources said Vietnam is interested to source Off-Shore Patrol (OPVs) vessels from India too. It is understood the Vietnam wants four OPVs, which would be used to police the South China Seas.

India is already training the Vietnam Navy per personnel in - among other things - operating the Russian-origin Kilo-class submarine. So far it has trained over 500 personnel of the Vietnamese Navy. But Hanoi wants more.

In addition, India and Vietnam could arrive at an agreement to launch Vietnam's satellites into space. India is also keen on establishing a satellite tracking, data reception and processing centre in Ho Chi Minh city.

. . .
oh yes!!
it would be not been seen hostile by india when the chinis sell CM400AKG anti ship missile to PAKistan

but it would be great sin / blaphesmy when india sells brahmos to vietnam

Hmm !!
hypocrisy at it's level best

CHEERS
But the main thing is can pakistan afford it?

.
what is wrong with government still thinking, if the chinese doesnt think twice before selling military hardware to pakistan, why should we?

In fact we should go further and offer the missile albiet covertly to both vietnam and taiwan, let the chinese know we to can play the games.

to-counter-china-indian-brahmos-missiles-patrol-boats-for-vietnam,,,

China, be very afraid! :girl_wacko:
What is wrong with you people? Why are you so toilet obsessed?

Vietnam needs to buy more Kilos from Russia. If Vietnam really wants to scare China they should build a very large submarines fleet. Submarines will always be one of the best options against surface ships. Anti-submarine warfare is an area where China is lacking heavily at the moment.

. .
Go ahead, India cannot sell the whole package to vietnam, mostly because India doesn't have the whole package.

Our Anti Access tech isn't a few ships and missiles, it's from space to under the sea, from radars in the air to Radars under the sea, missiles launched from deep in the forest or deep under water.

india does have the whole package. it's just that india has not proactive. patrol boats, brahmos equipped ships, mini brahmos designed ships, we can do it just as fast as we want it. and mark my words. we will. you do what you can.

at the moment, PLAN is quite weak. not very strong. at a later moment, everybody would have figured out a way to counter you. best part is, they'll gang up on you. :)

PLAN is weak relative to USN, this is the problem really, Indians speak English, so you assume articles are talking about China's strength could be relative to you, but it's not, it's to USN.

Our training carrier, you know, the one you guys don't think is anything, that's a superior ship, it was that way when the Russians design it, and it is now when we fixed it. But to Nimitz, it's a toy boat.

See, it kinda have to be the Nimitz.

Patrol boats? Our biggest is 12,000 tons the biggest in the world, our regular patrol boats number in the 60s are 5,000 and 3,000 tons. I didn't include the dozens of 1,600 ton ships and hundreds of smaller ones. You got nothing on us in terms of Coast guard ships, in fact nobody does at the moment, or looks to be in the foreseeable future.

Your biggest is a 3300 ton ship, maybe sell that to Vietnam, we only got 20+ of the superior ones (it's actually 3,900 tons) waiting in the SCS.

Subs, we have about 20 modern diesel subs that means including AIP, modern electronic systems, radars, weapons and more. Not to mention ~5 attack nuclear subs.

I'm not going to list anymore, go research on your own.

I know exactly what India has, due to my following of the Indian threads and articles, but I doubt you know what you are talking about.

Whether they'll gang up on us or not I'm not going to discuss here, cause just this sentence alone shows what you know of politics and people in general, ask any reputable member here including Indian members and see if they think countries CAN or WANT to gang up on China.

And what the hell is a mini Brahmos designed ship, lol.

P.S. India "GPS" will cover South Asia, China soon will cover the world. So how exactly are you going to help Vietnam target our ships if you can't even extend that far.

too many loopholes to reply to. bad english doesn't help.

yes they are ganging up. on you. as i type this post.

mini brahmos...google it..there will be ships with vls launchers equipped with brahmos mini in future. smaller in size..can be fitted onto smaller boats. same supersonic speed, accurate guidance system. perrrfect for viets. 25 such ships in different roles can protect vietnam very very well.

we should arm viets to teeth.

. .
Who's Vietnam's enemy? Laos I think. Give J-10Bs to Laos to bomb Vietnam :p:
