To Counter China, Indian BrahMos Missiles, Patrol Boats for Vietnam?

2050, that date has been set. But the meaning varies, 2050 just means we will be able to win in 2050 WITHIN the first island chain and the South China Sea decisively, and have a good chance WITHIN the second island chain, but lose past Guam.

We can challenge them else where, but depending on the political and strategic situation of that time how effective relative to the US varies.

2035 would be the time, we can definitely beat the US within the first island chain and probably South China Sea.

I'll tell you why.

China's problem right now isn't radar, weapons and electronic systems, to a lesser extent software even. It's platform.

China has no big transports, Y-20 by 2017-18 will solve that problem(domestic engine too), while C919-C939 will also contribute to the solution but that requires to about 2030ish for C939(300+seat airliner).

Z-20, Z-15, and other Z series helicopter will also help considerably by 2030.

We have plenty of Anti Sub weapons, including helicopter sub hunters, but the thing is, the helicopter is either too small or outdated.

We have under water drones, sonars, and all kinds of different weapons, but the thing is our platform shortage is a MAJOR problem. We have a Y-9 based ASW plane, but it's range and carry isn't top of the line, it's effective for short range missions but needs work for long range ones.

Bigger planes can also be made into oilers and greatly extend the range and operation time of all of these planes.

I should also mention one of the most lethal Sub hunter is submarine itself, and we will update all 50 diesel subs into state of the art subs by 2030.

Plans are also discussed for 20-25 nuclear attack subs, but the timeline on this isn't set.

LCS? We have 24 054A now, and 20 more 054B by 2023. So.....Not a big deal. Did I mention 50 type 056 and potentially another 50 of the same or a improved version is also talked about.

F-22? F-35? J-20, J-31. WS-13's factory is built, 2015 will start the first production engine next year, WS-10, still needs a year or so, 2016 at the latest, a version that can finally be mass produced( we have hundred or so WS-10 equipped fighter now, but needs work still.

WS-15, fifth gen engine by 2020ish, first test flight next year.

With reports, and our current number, future spending, and mission, 1,000+ fifth gen fighters deployed in China is all but assured.

There's no way America would deploy that many within the first island chain.

Missiles? We are about equal right now, I don't see any reason why it be any different decades from now.

I missed quite a few other things, but we'll leave it here for now.

hmmm...thank you so much.

And Vietnam will get them from America. Vietnamese relationship with America is the key and the only thing that matters.

good enough .........everyone should gear for self defense .

and who is attacking Vietnam that it needs India's help, stop exaggerating things..

well who is attacking Australia for example .............why they have an army????

Either you are naive or spin mater, because if you knew history of Australian Army than you would not have asked such a silly question

Autralina Army goes by what big brother tells them and that is why lately they were in Afghanistan, they been in Iraq and they been WW 2 and WW1 fought in Galipoli against Turkish forces. Dude. you are strange.

let me give you a hint, watch movie Galipoli and may be you will learn some history of Australian Army.

oh yes!!
it would be not been seen hostile by india when the chinis sell CM400AKG anti ship missile to PAKistan

but it would be great sin / blaphesmy when india sells brahmos to vietnam

Hmm !!
hypocrisy at it's level best

CHEERS
No only China would sell us more long range Missiles and Ships and also to Bangladesh and also help Burma

indian media suffers from delusions of grandeur, these type of article has been around for several years.

With oil prices hovering around 80 dollar per barrel,Vietnam is short of funds to even feed its people。

India should act comradely and give Vietnam, for free, all the weapons the latter might possibly need。

As a matter of fact,Vietnam and India should sign a pact under which India is legally obligated to provide Vietnam with all the assistances it needs to counter China, for at least the next 30 years。

50 billion USD a year is not too much to ask。

Don't be stingy。Do what India has to do。:enjoy:

doesn't matter what viets get american stuff or indian stuffs , thing is china needs to be checked . and usa already is in talks with india about providing naval security to india to counter chinese naval aggression so yes any wrong move by china will be fatal with all the parties ganging up against them.

Why so many Vietnamese delegations are paying homage to Beijing of late?

These guys are coming to China with begging bowls in hands now that the prices of Vietnam's main source of foreign revenue are in the doldrums。:D

Just talk....talk...talk!!! we've been hearing this for years... may be viets better off buying cheap Russian tech!!!! it is us that over exaggerating!!

you think the Vietnamese will get Brahmos-M for their Su-30s??

Go ahead, India cannot sell the whole package to vietnam, mostly because India doesn't have the whole package.

Our Anti Access tech isn't a few ships and missiles, it's from space to under the sea, from radars in the air to Radars under the sea, missiles launched from deep in the forest or deep under water.

exactly at the moment.

And what makes you think that we dont have whole package?Indian policy was reactive that is why some nation to exploit.
But when we begin to play our games things would be much different.

India Vietnam relationships are here to stay and will only go from strength to to strength-and the bonhomie will be beyond defense matters. We view Vietnam not as a belly ache for china, but as a partner in the decades to come.

Just read an article talking about Vietnamese defence personnel being trained for subs an sukhois in India. It should not come as a suprise if in the next few years, one would be able to spot a pinaka-2 mbrl or an akash derivate sam in vietnam.

Russia has a VETO on BrahMos sale. They have to approve the customer, as Vietnam in this case...Russia lately maintains good relations with China. So?

Or, may be, Modi is making a deal with China. Stay away from Pakistan and we do the same with Vietnam.
Despite India beefing up its border against China and trying to sell BrahMos to Vietnam - China has not withdrawn from its commitment to build Industrial parks in India worth 20 billion.

Something is cooking up..

India may sell BrahMos missiles to Vietnam With focus on defence cooperation, Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung to meet Modi today

SOURCE: Tribune News Service India may decide to sell supersonic BrahMos missiles to the Vietnamese navy, which may have implications in the disputed waters of the South China. Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung today reached New Delhi on a two-day visit here. He will hold talks on a range of issues with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow. As India widens its arc of influence, Vietnam has emerged as pillar of New Delhi’s ‘Look East Policy’. New age missiles, warships and additional training of Navy personnel will be on the agenda during Dung’s visit. The policy entails long-term strategic engagement with countries that are located east of it. If India decides to sell BrahMos missiles to the Vietnamese navy, this could change the dynamics in the disputed waters of the South China Sea where India has interests in freedom of navigation for cargo carrying ships through the waters and oil exploration blocks. Vietnam is one of the six countries along with China which dispute each other’s territorial limits at sea and the matter is pending in the United Nations for a final decision. India, has stated a target of achieving a $100 billon trade with the ASEAN – all located east of India – by 2015 and needs free shipping rights. Defence equipment supplies and military training are on the agenda tomorrow. India has extended a $100 million (approx Rs 600 crore) line of credit to Vietnam for the purchase of military hardware. This money could go for acquisition of BrahMos missiles and for four off-shore patrol vessels. A few Indian naval warships are equipped with these missiles which are produced under a joint India-Russia venture. A land-fired version has been inducted into the Indian Army while the air-use version is being retro-fitted onto the Sukhoi-30-MKI fighter jets. Indian Navy for the past three years has been training their Vietnamese counterparts in operating the Russian-origin Kilo-class of submarines which Hanoi has procured from Moscow. Over 500 personnel have been trained and Vietnam wants more. Vietnam has two-of the Kilo class vessels and third is expected to reach there by November and the fleet of six will be completed by next year. Indian Navy also operates the Russian submarine, hence was the ideal trainer for Vietnam. New Delhi could also allow transfer four naval offshore patrol vessels to Vietnam. Though the $100 million credit line was first announced in 2013, the first hint that India could be open up exports was in June this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi while on a visit to the Aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya said the country should export indigenously made weapons to smaller countries. There is a prospect of India launching Vietnam’s satellites into space and this is among the long-list of items identified as ‘expansion of
