Tk.1,330/ton Transit Fee Proposed for Indian Goods

Charging 70pct of average saves is just too much, especially when india will invest in the infrastructure. For soem of the nearer states, saves could be in negative. I think :-

Well charge can be revisited all the time. I think 1,330/ton is a reasonable amount which is way lower than the initial proposed according to the international standard.

1) we should just make excellent , the best , expressway from Indian areas ( CHICKEN NECK) only. In the long run this is better. This will also result in Bangladeshi's not thinking that we are born to just exploit their awesome wealth.

You already have road to go to your NE. Dont forget how much you going to save using the port of Chittagong. It will take only two hours to deliver goods that to your NE after unloading. Its huge.

2) If this is agreed, Indians will use the facility as a back up only and there will not be much traffic on this.....

Ideally, if India is investing in the infrastructure, the tariff should tak enot more than 20 pct of actual saves.

Thats up to you. Nobody going to force you to use BD route. We will always keep us competitive.

Pay attention! Those rail lines actually exist and not proposed lines! They are very well inside the Indian border unless you want to say that Indian railways made tracks inside Bangladeshi territory :lol: The rail lines look straight, cause its a schematic map!

If there already exist a number of very efficient and short roads and rail lines, then why the Indian Penny-pinching Banyas would come and beg to Bangladesh for a transit through Bangladesh for which they have to pay a transit fee? Can you or any of your Indian friends answer to this question?

As I said this transit through Bangladesh is only a temp thing. Some of the North East rail projects passed in the current project.:cheers:

As I said rail lines are not efficient enough at this stage, a lot of rail lines are single track and metre gauge as opposed to the prevalent broad gauge of the Indian Railways. Refer to my last post, work is going on to improve the efficiency of this rail network. Once done, India won't be needing any transit from Bangladesh. Not that it does even now, but since we have a favorable government in Bangladesh, might as well.

u r immature. India does not have to beg BD. Even when a deal with US is made, we are equals. we have at times been assertive and have not entertained deals from most powerful countries.

Who wants to do joint exercise with Indian Army? IA should be alone to solve NE insurgent issue, BD has no part in it.

1) 70% saving does not say the savings in time. Time is money. In an extreme case like Tripura delivery, India will save at least three days for each consignment.
2) India is not building the infrastructure, but BD is building the multi-billion dollar infra with its own money.
3) The $1 billion loan India is willing to provide will be paid back by BD with interest. So, this is BD money that will build the infra.
4) Building an overhead expressway through the chicken neck is not feasible for a poor economy like India. A truck's operating cost will be higher in a longer route.



YOu watch.....the infrastructure in and around Siliguri is going to be mind boggling.....I heard there are some proposals to make multiple line of railroad and highways.....in fact the long term plan is to make that narrow stretch free of ppl and station troops there as it is a vital point....

Thats your opinion but not the stand of your government or the business people who need that. Just talk to your NE government and the people there and they will say differently. Ofcourse main land Indians wants it without the transit but cost of doing business for NE people will be drastically reduced through the transit of BD. Its not only mainland goods getting carried to the NE but NE can independently import and export their product with the outer world which they cant now as they have to go through calcutta port half the world away from their home.

Your agent Hasina even cannot stop our navy to purchase Chinese weapons and war ships. She also cannot stop the Chinese Navy to give us technological help to build 5 units of Khulna Class large patrol boats. Your Hasina cannot buy a single piece of Indian weapon for BD. Better not charge it at all, following in Pakistani footsteps.

IMO.. the minimum fee shall be $2000/ton for land transit and $1000/ton for air transit.
