Time for Pakistan to act on Haqqani menace: Musharraf

Karachi, Sep.24 (ANI): Former Pakistan president and chief of army staff General (Retired) Pervez Musharraf has said Pakistan-United States relations have reached a critical stage, and it is time Islamabad took a decisive action in this regard.

Speaking exclusively to Geo News, Musharraf said the time has come for the army and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to take on the Haqqani terrorist network, and added that indecisiveness would not help the situation at all.

Pakistan should confidently approach the United States on the issue. (ANI)

Didn't think Musharraf would stoop this low. He is desperate to come back to power in Pakistan and being in America's good book helps.

Someone should ask him, that why didn't he take care of Haqqani when he was the leader of Pakistan.

No, ask him once again, where is OBL? His answer will be the same - anywhere but in Pakistan.

For a change, this time he will be telling the truth.

Let's make a deal. The US call's off its peace process with the Taliban and we'll attack the Haqqanis.

The hypocrisy of it all is the US is doing peace deals with the Taliban but want us to start a new war with them.

likewise its time for pakistan to act against ghouls and goblins.
cant act against something that doesnt exist.

Sad that our corrupt leadership or former leaders go to look for US approval. This is no different to Benazir going to america prior to her return to Pakistan and stating that she would allow american troops into pakistan.

Mushy has gone well down in my eyes first by doing a deal with benazir to allow her to return and now by following her footsteps. He is insulting his former uniform

Actually if Musharraf did make this statement and wants Pakistan to aggressively target the Haqqani then at least my understanding that Haqqanis are sort of 'protected' to play a post-America role is not valid.

Then the only explanation remains is that Haqqanis are just too powerful, entrenched to be taken on at this time where so many other parts of the FATA have been targeted already and that there is already a severe response in the form of terrorism; needling Haqqanis will probably make even Karachi burn by the terrorists.

So what are the Haqqanis for? A counter-balance to India or just too dangerous to confront at this point?

I am confused.

PS. Musharraf may be gullible but is not a 'traitor'.

Excellent political statement by Musharraf - This is an excellent opportunity for Pakistan to accomplish many important goal - however; if this moment is not handled sincerely, then of course it will be another squandered opportunity and POLITICIANS along with the ARMY will have lost the confidence of the people for a long time to come --- Watch Imran khan - then decide for yourself whether the role of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan has been revived or not.
