Ties with China good for region: Bangladesh PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said that strong China Bangladesh relations in various fields, including military co-operation, will have positive influence in the region.
The Bangladesh prime minister said the two countries have very strong historical relations and China is one of the important development partners of Bangladesh.
Hasina was talking to a high-level Chinese military delegation led by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of China Air Chief Marshal Ma Xiaotian when it called on her at her official residence in Dhaka.
She recalled the visit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to China in 1950s and said Bangladesh always values its historical and friendly relations with China.
Referring to the military co-operation between the two countries, she said the relations need to be taken to a higher trajectory in order to move towards a strategic partnership.
The existing training co-operation between the two armies has significantly contributed to overall efficiency matrix of Bangladesh army, she said.
She extended thanks to Chinese government for support to renovation of the Khulna shipyard and Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory and said the visit of the delegation would strengthen co-operation and understanding between the defence forces of the two countries.
