Tibetan refugees returning to China: In addition, no one is coming

Thanks for your unsolicited advice. Dispensation or non-dispensation of advise will not affect your application as a refugee into India.

Just to let you know so you are not embarrassing yourself, those poor Tibetan rebels never get Refugee status from Indian government so they are leaving.

The most important thing in an international forum is you have to believe what you said. So your last statement just make you a liar, which is not good for India, or for CPC if you are indeed working for them.

Ok. They are recognized as refugees by the UN. And Indians see them as refugees. I realize how democracies work might be difficult for you to comprehend.

I guess you don't fully understand English in the article that this thread is about, just to help you:

On paper, the Indian government recognises Tibetans only as ‘foreigners’, not refugees. India has refused to sign the 1951 United Nations convention on refugees, which defines refugees and makes States accountable for their wellbeing.

I guess you don't fully understand English in article that this is all about, just to help you:

Read my post again. Slowly this time.
Indians see them as refugees. That's what matters in a democracy. Not the nomenclature of the Govt. of India. I know all this is difficult to comprehend.

Indian democracy? You meant illiterates voting for stupid? Sure, I don't understand. Anyway, Tibetans are not buying it. They are returning to China.

LOL - which brings me back to the question - how many out of 100,000 + have returned?
Illiterates voting is better than illiterates dancing with joy that they ruled by a dictator.

How does the belief of the majority in India impact the life of these Tibetans?

Reading the article, it's clear that the Indian population is generally accepting to the Tibetans. There is no mention of violence directed at the communities by mobs and pogroms, so that's a plus point for India. Despite that, the article also states that the government has put in many economic restrictions and has moved to prevent Tibetans from politically assimilating into India, effectively a political restriction.

While the article states that the Indian gov does supply certain welfare benefits, I'd imagine the triple mix of superior economic growth in China's Tibet, citizenship refusal and economic restrictions in India, and weakening legitimacy of the Tibetan government-in-exile provides a very real incentive to return to Tibet. That or leave India and move to a western country.

At least in China and the West, there are less economic restrictions (on paper, racism is nasty like that), but in India the legal restrictions are both political and economic.

And what's the % of Chinese refugees in India who have opted to return because of whatever reason you state?

Go drag them out yourself, if you want to argue, at least do your own work.

This thread have become so silly. Especially a matured member like @Joe Shearer seemed to have taken the bait in being so immature.

On the other hand, we have the compensation of your mature response; that puts the discussion back onto an even keel. What a relief. Forgive me for not putting in an exclamation mark. You must be happy that your colleagues are behaving in a similar dignified, respectable manner; for an example, look at #148, and tell us, with a straight face, that it is what you consider a mature interjection.

But when I see some Chinese here - first I check my pocket. Satisfied that my wallet has not been picked by a Chinese - I throw some coins their way. I don't expect them to dance, but they do it anyways. I tell them not to - in this country, we have given the Chinese beggars refuge since eons. They smile. It is a nice feeling to help the destitute.

Come on Joe. Cut the simple chaps some slack. Imagine living in a country where your only chance of a better life is to get on a yak and cross the Himalayas and beg for refuge to a country which itself is poor and infested with slums and illiterate people and what not. That's a step up for these people. Or maybe several steps up. Next time you see a Chinese in India - don't forget to give him a few coins. It's the least we can do.
