Ok lets talk about skirmishes, Sir we had and having exchange only mortars and M.G fires. occasionally we exchange artillery fire which happened last time during Kargil and you still not got my point Sialkot's main city just over 12~16 kms away from border (working boundary) apart from military posts which are / were at border not more than 500 yrds then how comes an officer hae to take shelter in fox holes without support and have to travel 12 Kms bypassing all military posts to city to take refuge?

In WVR combat and during BFM hops, I can spot the bandit in a much easier fashion by just following the trail of smoke....

What an outrageous post---flying at 450 knots with your shaded visor down---smog in the air---you would lucky to spot an aircraft rather a foggy smoke trail---.

I would just leave it at that---.

In WVR combat and during BFM hops, I can spot the bandit in a much easier fashion by just following the trail of smoke....

I'm not an experienced fighter pilot but have worked on fighter jets on the flight testing side.

Just want to comment, that modern WVR missiles could theoretically take smoke trails into account to localize the presence of target. Working with multi-sensor inputs and combining the results of IR and visible spectrums + Radar reflections can increase accuracy. All of this is really theoretical, I don't actually know of any WVR that actually utilizes this, but what is certain is, in the realm of stealth jets, at least the Americans are very particular about reducing all types of signatures. That pic of T-50 belching smoke notwithstanding, it would be simply unacceptable for a multi-hundred million dollar plane to be spitting a visible trail.

But the most important thing is that black smoke indicates sub-optimal fuel cycle. It is something that can be targeted as a goal, and its elimination produces improvements in fuel utilization, meaning the jet can get more bang for its fuel bucks. The improvements needed would be in the areas of EEC, inlet design, fuel injectors, combustion chamber etc. This one goal represents a multi-disciplinary work involving materials, thermodynamics, structural engineering, electronics etc. In practice, if done correctly, it will mean the fighter jet can change speeds (low -> high, high -> low) much more quickly and efficiently, giving it a performance edge in a fight.

And finally, honestly it feels like an embarrassment. I want the black smoke gone from Thunder :D

Here in this video at around 4:07---there is a near hit---the video is from the fighter aircraft camera---the camera can see the smoke trail---but the human eye has no reaction to it until the last moment---.

So---what is visible to the camera may not be visible to the naked eye.

But if you follow the smoke trail---for a wvr shot---then that smoke might be a trap as well to set you up that while you are busy looking for the one with smoke---anther comes behind you and take you out---.

Personally---I would be extremely weary of this ' open invitation '---because all my attention is focused on searching for what is ahead of the smoke trail and I might be forgetting on what is on my tail.

Even with sunglasses under the shaded visor (at least near Minhad AB), it would be somewhat clear to see the smog if you're within visual range. It doesn't guarantee your chances of winning in combat but does assist in giving you somewhat of an idea what the bandit is performing, whether he or she is offensive or defensive.

Cross border firing and physical crossing the border to engage the troops too different things, I hope you Sir can understand as I mentioned earlier we do exchange fire at Sialkot sector but there is no such remote border area where officer have to stay in fox hole for days with injured buddy.
