How would we make chinese weapons to speak to an italian radar?? That would require alot of work?

The Vixen-1000ES scores much better on the performance benchmark. It offers a better detection range of 150km for a 1 sqm RCS target i.e. 224km for a 5 sqm RCS target. .

Thanks. Any references on this?

Unfortunately I lost quite a bit of my bookmarks when shifted from my desktop to my current laptop. But I do remember reading it on a discussion forum posted by a senior member.
Thanks for the reply.

Apparently there are two contenders for the AESA radar that is to be installed on the JF-17 Block-III, namely the NRIET KLJ-7A and Leonardo-Finmeccanica Vixen-1000ES AESA radars.
Thinking back to Zhuhai 2016, this might explain why the Chinese decided to bring the KLJ-7A out on display. I.e. their western competition was going to do the same.

My personal opinion would be to equip 25 of the Block-III planes with Vixen and equip the other 25 with KLJ-7A.

& very nice post but would like to disagree with the above quoted post as it will create operational issues, specially another issue which i think would be the cost as ONLY 25 units will obviously cost more as I don't think LENARDO would be comfortable to share such technology or codes & fututre upgrades as highlighted by you
2) Integration with the existing Chinese subsystems and weapons/armament
3) Access to future upgrades to the radar and the armament

JF-17B first flight is expected by the end of second quarter? It was expected around March/April if I am not wrong. And we will be seeing Block-III right on time as reportedly contract signed this year. Let's hope for some good pictures and videos.

AESA with two options and yet there is no confirmation either it is going to be KLJ-7A or Leonardo. Seems like Leonardo presentation in Ideas 2016 was not meaningless but would be under consideration as well but only time will tell.

Leobardo sees big potential in the jf-17 and hence approached the PAF during IDEAS. A comprehensive presentation on the capabilities of Vixen 1000 AESA radar was given. Leonardo is willing to provide a customized version of VIXEN 1000 AESA as per PAF requirements. Interestingly, integrating the SD-10A and other weapons is not an issue as PAF/ PAC have access to source codes.

Interesting times indeed.

In my openion, May be Radar and avionics are already conform thats why PAF is placing its order and if not then what are the details of the order ?

Fully agreed Sir. Also, to add in what I observe, actually this time, Italians are serious I mean dead serious for a scoop from JF-17 project and I am sure, only few things related to reservations regarding Tech Slips to be finalized if PAF/PAC decided to go with Leonardo. Plus points are like Vixen is proven, matured and builtin bonus IRST option and since a year or so, Pakistan has been close to Italians than before. RS visits, POF upgrade program, taking part in PA Gun Trials, several MOUs in defence field and interestingly AESA for JF-17 that I see all as beneficial as well as productive. Having source codes means an easy coupling though reservations could be w.r.t. tech leak but I am sure, as Leonardo step forward for discussion, they knew the same and would have on mind as well which could be sorted and who knows if already done and discussed as depends upon mutual trust.

Also, If PAF succeeds to secure any GCC order for JF-17 that we have been reading about interests from their end as well, IMO, Leonardo AESA would be more attractive offer for possible GCC order that can bear the cost as well as would like to integrate proven western tech as they are well used to. Though, Italian AESA along with IRST would cost more than opponent offer (KLJ-7A) with optional IRST option that we read, as planned to mount under chin which will definitely a hard point which can be utilized for other POD(s) as needed.

Pakistan-Italy cooperation was the reason that Chinese Friends came up with KLJ-7A that as per my observations, they knew about Italian progress and advancing for the order. May be mid of this year or in last quarter, we may have some news about AESA for JF-17 (read signing of order for PAF Block-III) but surely, interesting times ahead.
