central agencies warning of a terror threat.

Two Indian Navy warships, INS Khukri and INS Sumitra, that had docked at Kolkata for Navy week celebrations, have have gone back to sea. A Defence Ministry statement said they had been "withdrawn for undisclosed operational reasons."
The warships were scheduled to be anchored in Kolkata till Friday, and were to be opened to the public on Wednesday and Thursday.

Intelligence sources said after some intercepts suggested that there was a terror threat to the Kolkata port, the West Bengal government held a high-level security meeting and decided to sanitise the port.

The coast guard and other agencies have been alerted.

It is actually quite possible scenario as the area adjacent to the Kolkata port i.e. Khiddirpore is a known den of anti-national elements and as it contains a significant minority population(including a large illegal bangladeshi polevaulters) the Kolkata Police generally avoid to mount a thorough search due to strict instructions made by the ruling party which has a substantial vote bank in that region. You know,a couple of years ago there was an explosion in Khiddirpore just like the one that happened in Khagragare in Burdwan but the ruling party quietly put a lid on the case back then, but now the NIA (which is investigating all terror related activities in Bengal) has started asking the city police on the details of that particular incident:coffee:.

Lets hope that nothing happens and an attack can be prevented. The measures taken are definitely good once to reduce the risk. Good work so far!

Our Law enforcement agencies need to act like this.Wagah border warning was issued by the Intelligence agencies few days ago before incident but despite that Suicide attack happened.Lets hope from now on we act like this and take intelligence report seriously.

Good to see such inputs being taken seriously and appropriate measures being taken.

Thanks to Kasab &Co , almost every Indian city today has SWAT teams.
Nope not the Kolkata Police! The only unit which s even remotely similar to the QRT in Kolkata Police is the Special Action Force,an unit which is armed with only with the early model INSAS rifles and doesn't have a decent Level-III standard B.P.J. in it's inventory. Our city is in dire need of a decent SWAT like unit.I have got serious doubts on the K.P.'s ability to prevent any Mumbai style mass attack .The first and the foremost thing for the K.P. is to establish a large unit styled after the Mumbai Police QRT(I am not even talking about the Force One commandos) if they are serious abut the protection of the ordinary Kolkatans!!

Kolkata ,as a metropolition need a SWAT team ,.Force one like system would be more impressive.

On topic:Where is that idiot Mamata Banarjee?
Old lady and her party encouraged all of the anti national element for vote bank politics now all of them is around there for an attack.
Good work by intelligence .We need a Special Activities Division for our intelligence.

This is pretty absurd- a major city in India still not having a dedicated QRT? That Chief Minister has some serious questions to answer..

Why is she even still in power? She seems unanimously despised.
