What's new

This is yet another ugly chart for China's demographic future

I think my parents have already been to "九寨沟", but hey keep up posting those beautiful pictures.
I think when the semi-HSR (200km/h) is ready, estimated in 2018, it would be a completely different experience!
You know, currently, the highway from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou is OK, but not great.
Especially during rain season, it is very dangerous.
Actually when I was on my way back to Chengdu, the road was closed again and the driver chose an alternative highway. The Jiuzhaigou Circle Expressway is critical to local economy!

Blue in operation
Red under construction, now only highway available

Must accelerate the construction of Wenchuan-Jiuzhaigou expressway!
I know it's exceedingly hard for technicians and workers.
Local economy has been dragged down by horrible transportation for decades!

@AndrewJin

When I looked at your map, there are multiple ways back from Jiuzhaigou to Chengdu. Can you indicate on the map which way the driver took and post some pictures if you have.

Yep, though the crowd was crazy, I will definitely visit Jiuzhaigou again, so many charming lakes that I had no time to fully explore and I also had no time for Huanglong and other natural wonders in Northern Sichuan. I will wait for Lanzhou-Chengdu Rapid Rail, then we can just take bullet train to the nearest tourist town(Chuanzhusi) which is only 1-2 hours from Jiuzhaigou by shuttle bus.

Lanzhou-Chengdu Rapid Rail (200km/h)
estimated travel time from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou(nearest station), 2 HOURS!

I have to say, though the crowded was annoying, I was quite impressed by how they managed such huge amount of tourists and aunties and uncles.

Shuttle bus like every 1-2 minutes at main interchange stations?
I think at least 50% passengers of every bus were retired aunties and uncles.
It means, u will never find a time in the year without big crowed.
The difference of different seasons is how big the big crowd is!

Opening time!
7:30am, u would never know there were always thousands of tourists before you!
View attachment 309661

Closure time!
Aunties and uncles seemed not tired at all after returning back to the main gate!
I was totally exhausted!

I heard Autumn season is much more crowded. Fortunately, we managed to visit one (火花海?) without any other groups. Very serene and picturesque, feels 人间仙境 without the crowd and noise. The ice caps have not melted yet when I visited Huanglong a few weeks ago. A pity though that we didn't managed to climb to the top because of time constraints. I hope to visit again in Autumn after the railway is finished, but I bet it would be much much more crowded by then.

There was an old uncle aged 78 in my tour group and I was surprised that he managed to climb quite far in Huanglong and reached the peak at Mt. Emei.

When did you visit it?

It was a miracle if u visited 火花海 without tourists, that is said to be one of the most charming one in Jiuzhaigou National Park.
Yes, deep Autumn is the best season.

On my way back, the driver of the coach chose the highway to the southeast of Jiuzhaigou.
(actually I reached Jiuzhaigou from a highway which is seldom reached by general tourists from the deep valleys and grassland of Western Sichuan Province)
hxjtt.jpg

I have to say, the highway sometimes looks not so safe for such a giant coach!
I wish the Jiuzhaigou Circle Expressway can be finished as soon as possible!

red line was the route I chose from Western Sichuan to Jiuzhaigou in Northern Sichuan.
White line is the highway I mentioned.
Blue line is the final section of that road trip, part of Beijing-Kunming Expressway
Green line: Chengdu-Lanzhou Rapid Railway (200-250km/h, under construction)
Yellow line: Wenchuan-Jiuzhaigou Expressway (under construction)

However, the journey on this highway(Sichuan provincial highway s205) really gave a me a glimpse of one of China's remotest corners.

When the coach stopped at a township for lunch (county seat of Pingwu County), I was quite impressed.

Late October-early November.

I spent two weeks in Western Sichuan and Northern Sichuan, and of course one day in Panda Reserve!

Chengdu is amazing.
In such big city (10 million people), the life is so slow.
Have some tea in the tea house, playing mahjong in the park, have some hot pot at night.
So envy them!

Yeah we took a mini-van as advised to dodge the crowd. Managed to get real close and take videos of the clear water flowing into the turquoise water of 火花海 without disruptions.

I think Chongqing is the biggest in Western China. Or in fact, biggest in whole of China. The traffic though... My tour guide told me Chengdu actually means 天都在

I remember that panda on the IFS building. I saw many ear-digging services in 宽窄巷, which really reminds me of Singapore in the olden days. Things are surprisingly more expensive than Singapore though in Chengdu. Maybe because I spent most time in the touristy spots.

Like panda slow life, huh? I was told that the life is slow is because of the local Sichuanese culture. Sichuan is relatively free from disasters in the old days, and is blessed with an abundance of resources. 天府之国. Hence life is not as harsh and the local culture is not as rugged and 'intense' as other regions. Sort of a 'resource curse' in the old days.

I still remember my tour guide told us a saying about Sichuan: “少不入川,老不出蜀”

'这句话是讲这天府之国实乃温柔之乡,好吃好喝好山好水之外还美女如云。少年当胸怀天下,若早年入川,意志不坚定者难免流连于斯,乐不思归,则一生平淡,难成大事。年老时不出蜀,因为其他地方没四川悠闲。

Where there is expressway or/and HSR, where there are opportunities.

Compared to sizes of cities, first we should know a city in China is actually a city+ several counties(or county-level cities) and large area of countryside. So basically we only compare population of urban districts. A city in China is more like a prefecture in Japan.

See the map of my city, it has a huge core city, with numerous small suburban cities and also countryside.

Yes, broad narrow alley is 100% tourist, ear-digging should be around 10 yuan in People's Park of Chengdu.

Chengdu basin is quite isolated from outside.
A journey into Chengdu basin was a notorious journey before 1950s.
The most complicated section of the expressways from my province to Chongqing/Sichuan is at the provincial border.

It is quite worth it to avoid all the waiting and pushing in the bus. Moreover you can visit any lake you want at the best possible time. My tour guide says she's very relieved that we took the van since she had a nightmare previously squeezing into the bus.

I see. No wonder cities in China seem to be very large in area and quite low on population density on paper.

Anyway we are seriously derailing the thread.

A typical city is a prefecture-level city under the provincial government.
Under the prefecture-level city there are urban districts, county and county-level city.
Chongqing Municipality is basically a province....It is comprised of former Chongqing City and several prefecture-level cities from Sichuan Province.

.
Very big reason,
But India is the most ionic and different then countries you named, You guys are loosing something :-)
The main reason is that India's safety doesn't have a good fame in China.

People here have heard many rape cases&terrorist cases,so we dare not visit India..(Mom also doesn't let me visit Europe, because of terrorist cases)

I have planned to visit India for months, but eventually my parents don't let me go and we choose Sri Lanka&Maldives.

Then India loses 3 customers that love staying in 5-stars hotel:p:(Oh no is 4,I forget my driver:ashamed:)

Chinese Tourist Arrival to Sri Lanka Up 31.5 Pct in May

http://english.cri.cn/12394/2016/06/08/4203s930237.htm

China is going to be the biggest source of tourism numbers to the island in the near future, Buddhist pilgrim sites along with beach holidays are the main attractions, The numbers of people in the service industry learning Mandarin in Sri Lanka has gone up exponentially
I can't wait to visit Sri Lanka <3

Ayaaaa!!!
