Its Murtaza haider.he always writes such childish crap blogs.. and he is a lawyer based in canada

One of the resons to not read dawn blogs, all are like that. Have seen more rubbish pieces from him.

But there are foreign ngos that work in rural areas and they help women become financially independent like providing sewing machines or micro loans etc with the brainwashing that this way they will have more say in family matters and as they will be contributing to house expenses so will be more confident before husband. I had actually read stuff along these lines shared by a nonpakistani westerner worker of a foreign ngo in a news report published on women empowerment or something in pakistan. They were actually teaching women this that they shoud stand against their husbands in conflicting matters.

Guys dont throw tomatoes at me but one of the leading reasons of depression in west are broken families, dysfunctional relationships , we mashaAllah still have a healthy family system intact on our side, which is also one of the reasons we havent suffered from many issues that are prevalent in west.

Every now and then DAWN and Express Tribune will take a dump by churning out such articles. Not amused!

“The United States is behind the increase in divorce rates in Pakistan.”

With hundreds of millions spent on PR, and billions more in humanitarian aid, America continues to struggle to build a positive image in Muslim countries. With extremist mullahs on one hand and Socialists and Marxists on the other, the anti-American propaganda in Pakistan thrives in madrassahs and universities alike.

What distinguishes Pakistan from the rest is how readily willing its educated class is to fall for propaganda.

As for the surge in divorce rates, maybe, just maybe, it is time for Pakistani men who beat their wives to stop doing so.

I could NOT agree with this more. I deal with all the above and see them every day on these posts. The moral is, Pakistan is SUCH a hard working nation, so smart and always have done well. Its the freaking Americans who don't let them succeed.

BUT, not sure why the Americans STILL keep supporting them and have been for the past 70 years!!!! I HOPE the Pakistanis realize the importance of working with the US (like India has, through soft skills, and talk, not bashing America), and really benefit from their American friends.

We are not responsible for excessively Alcohol consumption in Pakistan (which happens everywhere like its a regular thing), dance parties, divorces and affairs. You guys watch too many Indian movies

Also, divorce rate is becoming very high in India too. Its not a fault on anyone. But its what Economic Growth and prosperity brings to the table. When personalities clash and both parties know they can survive without each other, than its the right thing to do not to be in a constant stressful environment. Divorce on real grounds is permitted under all Abraham religions like Christianity, Judaism and Islam. So what God allowed...could NEVER be America's fault. Please call 1-800-GOD and ask him why he allowed it.

And my Pakistani forum members, this article above, is an eye opener. This is what I've been writing so much about. Pakistanis need to learn to be a little political and honest to themselves. Don't blame the US for ALL your issues, trust me, its not the US. Try to work with the US and get the benefits that Indians and Turks and others have gotten. Grow your country's reputation and grow your country's economy!!!

I only wonder what sad bunch of "professionals" this guy hangs out with...

Conspiracy nuts are found in every nation... Some conspiracies are true others nonsense... But the only class that's more likely to believe such stuff is the lower class ... Which believes what it heard on TV or some pseudo intellectual (another uneducated guy) in their group who loves to brag...

Divorce rate isn't even a national issue ... Nobody gives a shit about done alleged divorce rates! Unless it's some poor uneducated bastard who got dumped by his wife... It's more likely that our Canadian lawyer friend keeps such a company.

Yes people believe that other countries are involved in terrorism in Pak but we also know that the guys on ground committing such acts are from our own community.... Before yes there were people who thought that taliban aren't muslim or Pakistani... But long gone are those days...

I would advice the writer to use his energues on other constructive issues rather than writing nonsense he heard at some truck driver hotel .... Or he can start writing about Americans or Canadians alleging they were abducted & butt searched by perverted aliens....

Well, I am in favor of women empowerment. Women are mistreated in our part of the world and their livelihood is almost 100% dependent on men they are tied up with. Islam empowers women to get their ways parted if they cant live with a man for legitimate reasons. However, it is extremely difficult for dependent women to part ways and as a result they continue to live a horrible life. Time has changed and we Eastern men must evolve with it. Women are our equal partners and we must treat them as such.
No, i totally agree with u on this. And also its very true women are really mistreated on our side specially in rural settings. There is no denying that. I was only sharing what ihad read. Basically its our own weaknesses, men oppressing women ,wife beating, lack of access to education that cud be the reason why others are able to take advantage of us.

Plz dont get me wrong in what iwas saying in that post.i wasnt speaking against education, empowerment ,divorce or anything.no. I just wanted to share the report ihad read. I felt agar aisa kuch parha hai then ishud share than keeping it to myself.

"Suman Nalwa, a senior New Delhi police officer dealing with crimes against women, was quoted by the Associated Press as saying dowry practices extended to all classes in society. "Even highly educated people don't say no to dowry," she said."

No inever said there is anything wrong in it. That wasnt the point of my post. Its upto an individual what decision they make for themself.

In your opinion what should women do if they have a strong and fundamental disagreement with their husband?

Umm kick him in the leg and lock him in the room for 6 hours. I dont know. Lolzz dont ask me.

And my flaw absolves you of yours? :enjoy:
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

This is the reason i dont usually take digs at indians on their societal ills unless provoked.

And apparently what u are seeing as a flaw, doesnt really exist or is found in all educated pakistanis. And as of falling prey to propaganda ,then u being an indian should know better than the rest of us abt who falls the most for propaganda regardless of their education, because the kind of propaganda-driven media india has and apparently indians love believeing in every concoted gibberish aired by it.

For instance, my wife came to our house with just a suitcase containing her personal belongings. I still remember the words of my great father that he said to my in-laws. He said "I surely can afford a room and a bedroom set for my daughter in-law". He refused anything in the name of dowry and that is exactly what I am going to do inshaAllah when my two boys will get married. I also know that parents of some of my very close friends did the same for they knew the ills that come with dowry. In-fact there is no such concept of dowry in Islam. We adopted it from Hindus and we must abandon it ASAP for it is totally un-Islamic.

When Ali (RA) married Fatima (RA), Mohammed (PBUH) asked him if he had any money. Ali replied in negative but added that he had an armor. Mohammed (PBUH) asked him to sell the armor to buy necessary household items. Usman (RA) bought the armor for 40 silver coins (dirham) that Ali (RA) used to provide with basic household items. Usman was so great that at later time point, he returned the armor back to Ali (RA) as a gift.

“The United States is behind the increase in divorce rates in Pakistan.”

If you live in Pakistan, you must be used to hearing – and perhaps making – such and even more outrageous statements. But not I.

I arrived in Pakistan last week. Even before PIA’s plane took off from Toronto airport, my fellow passengers had already resorted to what I know now was their favourite pastime: America bashing.

“Shuja Khanzada was assassinated because he was about to expose America’s involvement in terrorism in Pakistan,” whispered my fellow passenger, while we were delayed by an hour at the tarmac.

I was surprised, to put it mildly, when I heard a rather distinguished group of Islamabad-based male professionals nodding in agreement to the claim that the US was behind the sudden increase in divorce rates in Pakistan.

I couldn’t resist to probe, “How so?”

“Well, Americans are awarding thousands of scholarships for higher education to Pakistani women. On their return, these women are more in tune with the American values than they are with those of their homeland. They ultimately leave their husbands,” explained one.

That this statement is factually untrue is a minor concern to me. I am alarmed about the fact that it is virtually impossible for a few hundred urban women to influence the divorce rates in the largely rural Pakistan.

Let’s look at this in a systematic way. First, has there been a dramatic increase in divorce rates in Pakistan? I believe the statistics are not available to make a conclusive statement. The published research is rather shoddy.

Lawyers interviewed for recent news reports did not attempt to hide the misogyny-laden twisted logic and argued that education has led to financial independence for women, who are now increasingly asking for divorce instead of “compromising”.

It is strange that those who hold such an opinion do not question the practice where Muslim men can arbitrarily divorce their wives and are not bound to any communal or legal arbitration.

“I divorce thee” times three is the trump card Muslim men have used to break off marriages instantaneously. However, when women request for arbitration on divorce, these men see red.

Let’s analyse the claim about the Americans exclusively funding Pakistani women for higher education, which the conspiracy theorists believe is causing the surge in divorces in Pakistan.

The Fulbright program in Pakistan, for instance, provides scholarships for doctoral and Masters studies abroad. In 2015, the Fulbright program in Pakistan enrolled 180 students. A survey of 86 of the 180 revealed that a mere 27 per cent of the 2015 class were women. So from a total of 180, I expect fewer than 60 to be women.

Even if the entire lot of Fulbright women – who will eventually graduate a few years down the road – divorce their spouses, they still cannot possibly influence the 90 million Pakistani women on the matter of divorce.

Aisi Taisi Hypocrisy
An even stronger strand of anti-American sentiment comes from certain members of the military. Senior decorated army officers may be equally gullible or biased. Confidential diplomatic dispatches from the US embassy in Islamabad revealed that Anne Patterson, the US Ambassador to Pakistan in 2008, “received astonishingly naive and biased questions about America” when she addressed Army’s National Defence University in Islamabad.

“The elite of this crop of colonels and brigadiers are receiving biased NDU training, with no chance to hear alternative views of the US,”
the dispatch quoted the ambassador.

Not much has changed since then. The tit-for-tat song, Aisi Taisi Hypocrisy, written in response to the Indian Aisi Taisi Democracy is yet another example of the flourishing anti-West sentiments in Pakistan. Written by Hassan Miraj, a major in Pakistan Army, and sung by my younger cousin, Mujtaba Ali, the song draws a contrast between the ills in India and Pakistan. However, the song squarely puts the blame for Pakistan’s ills on the white race (a euphemism for Americans), Arabs and the news media. Scapegoating at its best.

America should not be judged only for the misdeeds of CIA and Pentagon. The same goes for Pakistanis, who should not be seen in the narrow context of martial laws or the intelligence intrigues.

American universities may be expensive, but they are the best in the world. That Pakistani students are welcomed in the US is no intrigue. Pakistanis should welcome people-to-people contacts with the rest of the globe and resist narcissist xenophobia that feeds conspiracy theories.

As for the surge in divorce rates, maybe, just maybe, it is time for Pakistani men who beat their wives to stop doing so.
US has to stop double standards spenting money cant clean your scars put on muslim world

I would say this for many nations
"Do not confuse recognition for participating in an organized and controlled distribution of information as evidence of intelligence or wisdom".

When people like Shireen Mazari, Dr. Shahid Masood and Hameed Gull are called Think Tanks what can we expect???USA is bound to protect its Interests no matter what and Pakistan does the same so whatever people have with USA its MUTUAL rather then one sided.

All those names you mentioned are still much much better than anyone from PLMN govt. Shame on that.

If conspiracy theories were a sport, Pakistan would be Australia.

India would still be India.
