So it really is Pakistan first, not Islam first here.

Impressive, Mr Musharraf would be proud.

Even if its Islam first, let realize that on the ground there is no problem with non-Muslims serving and it is also nothing new. For some odd reason from time to time Pakistanis have this tendency to report on non-Muslims serving as if its a novelty. Part of the problem is that our qaum is actually quite misinformed itself and secondly, we get taken in by the outside propaganda which makes Pakistan look as if there is no one but Mullahs with 18 inches long beards, shalwars rolled up, restricting and regulating everyone. Our minorities serve in proportions similar to the population demographics. In that light, we are no different than any other country of the world.

I personally have known and seen many from different denominations (Ahmadis, Christians, Parsis etc.) in the Army. I would also venture to say that our three services are actually more liberal than the country as a whole (and yes we have the mullahs and the tableeghis too in uniform but all are represented). A non-Muslim serving is not a novelty (well maybe a Sardar ji is just because there are only a few across the Army and PR). The media talks about it more now and as a result, it has dawned upon the awam that we have non-Muslims in our ranks. It was never news to those in uniform.

Islam comes first because Islam is the reason for existence of Pakistan. When Islam is implemented in true spirit all minorities are given their rights more than their own countries

So, long as everybody gets equal rights and the country is prospering and being run "rationally", I personally don't have a problem with whatever they prefer to call it. Because then, it doesn't matter. See, Pakistanis themselves have been a confused breed for long, they don't exactly know themselves who they are with and what they want. They are easily swayed by the emotional and loud sermons of the Mullah and also want to project a soft image to the world hence the persistent highlighting of the minorities serving their country despite the fact that they have been there, since the country came into existence. Not exactly their fault, since a peaceful and Sufi loving group of people have faced the propaganda and indoctrination designed to illogically tackle the Godless communists, hence the constant confusion and lack of self. But thankfully, the curse has been lifting and hopefully, it will continue.
