The Problem With the Global Left

You may say that I a non-Pakistani would not know the dynamics in Pakistani politics but I think you don't know much about the Pakistani Left. From Faiz Ahmed Faiz's attempted coup in 1951 to Malala to the late Mashal Khan to the Laal music band to now possibly Arooj Aurangzeb.

Here's a message from Malala from 2013 :

From an older PDF post from 2011 :

@Naofumi, above is some of what can be known to a non-Pakistani about the Pakistani Left. Additionally, please read this thread of mine from 2016 which speaks of Leftist activism among Muslims of the world, including Pakistan. Actually I have linked to you this thread a few days ago.

---
@AUz, why are you obsessively and moralistically talking about religion and sexuality ?

Malala's dad got famous when he used to give racist speeches from his house veranda while he was going to university in Swat. Typical racist bigot who used to blame Punjabis and Gul Khans for all problems. Typical of ANP. I know many people who went to school with him and knew him personally. He was a social outcast from the beginning. People used to throw rocks at him which he was giving his diatribes.

He later became a journalist and arranged a fake publicity stunt using his daughter. She got sprayed by duck shot, missing her face. After that, he used his connections with Western journalists to popularize her.

Still she comes to Western capitals and talks about how Pakistan has no girl schools (total lie,) how Pakistan supports and does not take action on terrorists (another lie,) and dreams about becoming PM of Pakistan (never going to happen.)

When Pakistani authorities asked her to give the name and identity of her attacker, she refused and said, "She forgave him." However law does not work like this. She kept dodging the issue, but in the West speaks flowingly about the incident.

These kinds of ANP relics are a dying breed in Pakistan, and they have become nothing more than echo chambers for their own people, who decease day by day. Their actions look good on Indian, European, and American newspaper headlines, but nowhere else.

These days ANP has morphed into PTM, they have no qualms about attacking Pakistani border patrols and funding TTP.

I think the point that author wants to make is that leftist don't make visible efforts to disassociate from this kind of "activities". This may give an impression of silent collusion etc.
People in general, aren't liable to answer for the action of others.

.
A good read and yes the author is right in saying now a days the origin of leftists are most often top colleges run by govt money while most of them belong from the privileged classes who wanted to bring revolution by typing it in the latest I Phone in a swimming pool in a posh flat while snorting cocaine with girls and boys doing orgy .

That imagery is disinformation which the Right wants you to believe.

Remember this rumor campaign from 2016 about the JNU :
Amidst the raging JNU row, a BJP MLA has stoked fresh controversy by alleging that the premier university is a hub of sex and drugs where over 3,000 used condoms and 2,000 liquor bottles are daily found.

Gyandev Ahuja, BJP MLA from Ramgarh in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, alleged that those studying in JNU were indulging in all these “illicit” activities.

“More than 10,000 butts of cigarettes and 4,000 pieces of beedis are found daily in the JNU campus. 50,000 big and small pieces of bones are left by those eating non-vegetarian food. They gorge on meat... these anti-nationals. 2,000 wrappers of chips and namkeen are found, as also 3,000 used condoms — the misdeeds they commit with our sisters and daughters there. And 500 used contraceptive injections are also found.”

Besides this, 2,000 liquor bottles as also over 3,000 beer cans and bottles are daily detected in the campus, he claimed. “Who drinks it? Takes a guess,” he said.

The BJP MLA went on to claim that “Students are mostly found taking drugs after 8 p.m. inside the campus. Those studying in JNU are not children, many are parents of even two children. They indulge in peace protests in the mornings and during the nights, they perform obscene dance,” he said during a protest march on Monday in Alwar attacking JNU students.

And remember those hate-filled accusations about Kanhaiya using iPhone and traveling in airplanes ?

If you are 20 you are not liberal then you don't have a heart and if you are 40 and not conservative then you don't have a brain.

Come on, that's quite a silly saying.

I know many people who went to school with him and knew him personally. He was a social outcast from the beginning. People used to throw rocks at him which he was giving his diatribes.

What would he say ?

He later became a journalist and arranged a fake publicity stunt using his daughter. She got sprayed by duck shot, missing her face. After that, he used his connections with Western journalists to popularize her.

That is why I said in a later post that she faces hostility in Pakistan by some who doubt the event when she was shot.

This was her in her younger days :

This is her in 2019. We can see a slight deformation under the eye in the right of the picture ( you are a doctor, yes ? ) :

Fair enough but drawing clear lines will only get the moderates-centrists in their camp which usually constitutes a big chunk of the population.

A large number of them are "LGBTQ, feminists blah blah" - all that shit which have negative connotations. At least that's what I see from social media.

Shehla Rashid used to / does now identify herself as a feminist. But I think given time and her front-line participation in the resurrection of India's Progressive Youth movement, she will identify herself as a humanist.

Take a look at pellet gun victims in Kashmir. Then look at Malala.

Anyway, I relayed the facts. You can believe as you like.

This family has been known to Pakistanis for a long time, they didn't appear out of the blue.

You can answer the two points discussed in these two paragraphs brother @jamahir , I want to see your take on this.

When was the last time she said all this ? Can you please give me some articles to read?

Well, any woman ( or man ) in the Subcontinent who says that socialism is the answer to all our social, economic and political problems, that person should be given a chance at being a PM. I would want the same for India with Kanhaiya Kumar being the PM.

Can we hear those talks and speeches in which she said this so that we can form our opinion?

Past affiliations can cost your future, people always dig out past things to prove their point.

Kanhaiya Kumar being the PM.
Hell no. What are his qualifications other than being a controversial celebrity?

It is all over internet, just search her speeches and listen. Those were her basic main points and made her popular in the West, however it is a gross misrepresentation of facts. I think she has a book too.

Pakistanis have already formed their opinion on Malala and her dad. We don't want anything to do with these people.

You guys take them. We have no complaints.

Well, she isn't anything like those moralistic modern Western feminists. She is a sensible woman. I don't think her enemies will find anything bad about her past.

Hell no. What are his qualifications other than being a controversial celebrity?

Counter questions. What should be his qualifications and who projects him as a controversial celebrity ?

Also, I will post his well-known 'Azaadi' slogan :

bhukhmari se azaadi ( freedom from hunger )
berozgari se azaadi ( freedom from unemployment )
punjivaad se azaadi ( freedom from capitalism )
brahmanvaad se azaadi ( freedom from Brahminical tyranny )

Was this slogan not a good first step towards him making known his position ?

I have already posted that a very important fact about her is deliberately not made known in the West - her liking of socialism as a solution to the problems in Pakistan.

From this article from 2014 about an event from 2012 :
“I am convinced,” Malala wrote in a message sent earlier this year to Pakistan’s International Marxist Tendency (IMT), that “socialism is the only answer, and I urge all comrades to struggle to a victorious conclusion. Only this will free us from the chains of bigotry and exploitation.”

Malala’s message, sent from Birmingham, England, where she is at school, thanked the group for introducing her to Marxism and socialism. Despite the accolades being showered on her abroad, Malala was hardly advocating reliance on Western salvation: “I just want to say in terms of education, as well as other problems in Pakistan, it is high time that we did something to tackle them ourselves. It’s important to take the initiative. We cannot wait around for anyone else to come and do it. Why are we waiting for someone else to come and fix things? Why aren’t we doing it ourselves?”
Malala’s association with the leftist group predates her Nobel and the Taliban’s attempt on her life. She addressed the IMT National Marxist Summer School in 2012, speaking from a stage adorned with portraits of Russian revolutionaries Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky.

Her leftist inclinations appear, however, to be more locally rooted, in a progressive Pashtun political tradition — and her family’s left-wing secular politics. That made her not only an advocate for children’s education but a self-aware and determined ideological foe of the Pakistani Taliban who had ravaged her native Swat Valley.

I think she has a book too.

I haven't read the book that was released in 2013 but from its Wikipedia page I find nothing describing her association with Pakistani leftists.

Pakistanis have already formed their opinion on Malala and her dad. We don't want anything to do with these people.

Not everyone in Pakistan. :)

I found this song from 2013 by the Pakistani socialist music band Laal, the song dedicated to Malala. I don't have headphones atm, will listen to the song later.

I have already posted that a very important fact about her is deliberately not made known in the West - her liking of socialism as a solution to the problems in Pakistan.

Their ideology is racial supremacy. ANP is the grandchild of Abdul Ghaffar Khan, frontier Gandhi, who failed to gain support in KPK and former FATA for Congress. He lived like a fugitive his whole life and mostly in Afghanistan.

Her father Ziauddin Yousafzai, as I showed you earlier was a fanatical ANP member who was outcast from Swat society. Even rcently I heard him recite his usual mantra of Pakistan does not treat Pukhtoons fairly and as full citizens, which again is total nonsense.

Any relationship to socialism, is only in the fact that they are secular in nature and loath Islam. ANP were collaborators with Soviets during Afghan jihad, always maintained ties to India, and worked as agents of Afghan Kabul regime for decades.

With the victory and total conversion of KPK to PTI, ANP lost sway which they were losing since the 90s due to their racist rhetoric against non-Pukhtoons and Islamic-minded Pukhtoons (the majority of KPK) alike.

Being frustrated with their lack of influence and rejection by Pakistani society, they took to militia-like attacks and supporting terrorism (TTP) as a new movement called PTM.

PTM is currently facing backlash in Pakistan due to their links to NDS and RAW, and role in some terror attacks.

Not everyone in Pakistan. :)

Then Pakistanis like you should approach him and not only ask him to temper these particular ethnicity-centric sentiments of his but also invite him into a new coalition of Progressive Pakistanis who can present an idea of a Progressive Pakistan which previous people like Faiz Ahmed Faiz would have wanted.

I say this because I want India too to have an umbrella movement under which all the marginalized communities like Dalits, Muslims, farmers, women etc can join the Left and Center-Left to present a new political movement.

Any relationship to socialism, is only in the fact that they are secular in nature and loath Islam.

Quite a few Muslim-led governments in the past have been secular, socialist and forwarding the true spirit of Islam. This sentiment you know from my previous posts. :)

ANP were collaborators with Soviets during Afghan jihad, always maintained ties to India, and worked as agents of Afghan Kabul regime for decades.

Bhai, this so-called Afghan Jihad was created in the minds of Western governments to stop Afghanistan from becoming yet another country in the Eastern bloc. Al Qaeda and the Taliban were the creation of CIA.

During the time of the Afghan socialist government there was big social progress, including women becoming a greater part of society. And an Afghan went to space to stay for a few days aboard a USSR space station. Contrast this with the later Taliban government and the social effects that has until now.

And why should we use words like "Kabul regime" like how NATO uses "the Libyan regime", "the Syrian regime", "the Venezuelan regime" etc ?

1) He's himself a Bhumihar Brahmin.
2) May I ask what all these slogans achieved in West Bengal? No growth, no industries, farmer loans, massacres of poor and refugees. Moreover, no matter how much they scream "brahmanvaad se azaadi" the CPI's GS remains himself a Brahmin.

This is simply optics. Stats matter.

1) He's himself a Bhumihar Brahmin.

How is that his fault ? He was born into a Brahmin family but doesn't he speak against Brahmin supremacy and oppression ?

Also, he was poor.

2) May I ask what all these slogans achieved in West Bengal? No growth, no industries

Yes, the Left in West Bengal should have done more. It did not become an industrial power like USSR or a comfortable welfare state like Cuba or a generally self-sufficient state like DPRK.

But Kerala seems to have been a general success with its embracing of Information Technology development.

farmer loans

?

massacres of poor and refugees.

?

The CPI's GS is D. Raja who was born a Dalit.

This is simply optics. Stats matter.

What kind of stats do you need ?

And look at Kabul in the 80s, pre-Taliban :

And please read this Wikipedia page about the lynching of a Kabul woman Farkhunda in 2015 for alleged blasphemy.

Such things are real stats.

Representation is still skewed, that's the point.

LOL, There's no IT in Kerala compared to Bangalore, Hyedrabad, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai or even Mumbai. Kerala lives on remittances from the rest of India and Gulf-Saudi.
Coming to the "infrastructure" - it's because of pre-independence efforts of princely states like Travancore and Cochin - had more than three times the literacy than national average, so they had a massive head start. It's debatable if communist in Kerala did anything positive but they were no better than average for sure.

Nope. It's optics - selective photos. Yes, the Taliban is/was regressive but socialist governments did not achieved anything than their predecessors. Show literacy rates, female participation rates, infant mortality rate etc. 0.0001% of population attending schools is not progress.
generally self-sufficient state like DPRK.
Lol, you're fan of that fat brainless Dictator?

A "normal" scene in Kabul now, post-Taliban rule :
You're wrong here too, I follow many female Afghan handles and not all them are illiterate Burqa clad oppressed women.
