I grew up assuming that the Indian Muslims cared for us as we cared for them. I always thought of them as brothers. I was astonished when, as I grew up, I learned that the Indian Muslims actually hated us Pakistanis. It's taken me a while to come to terms with this fact.
The ball is in their court. They can change their thinking and start seeing us as we see them or they can can carry on hating us to prove their Indianness to their Hindu overlords allthewhile being treated worse than Dalits. The choice is theirs.

History is filled with incidents where the population which was being oppressed was led by treacherous/sell out leadership. Unless and until the general populace rises up and rebels against the tyrants; no leadership ever emerges.

E.g. look at Afghanistan. In the First Anglo-Afghan war or Soviet Afghan war or US invasion of Afghanistan; they always had a sell out leadership which collaborated with occupation forces. But it always was (and sill is) the general populace (or some sections of the populace) which rebelled and took the fight to the enemies.

It is not that Indian Muslims especially hate Pakistanis or Pakistan. Just that they are expected to do that so that they seem patriotic.

Even many sane non-Muslim voices don't hate Pakistan. Just that they have to find the bridge the gap between the two countries.

A young Sikh woman, Gurmehar Kaur, some years ago posted a vid about this. Her father died in the Kargil War in 1999. I ask you to watch this her vid without making prior judgement.

After partition there was no pro-Muslim party left in India (except some later formed regional ones). Even if it had formed it would be seen very communal like leftover of Muslim League. Muslims voted for Congress, SP, BSP, RJD etc. They voted for :-

1) Keep BJP/Sangh out of power.

2) For some new ideas which they thought would help their socio-economic status - like Subaltern politics (Muslim-Bahujan movement).

in the end you're left with significant enough, but significantly less in numbers than from where we started.. 250 million.

From what I gather, certain Muslim-majority countries ( example : Algeria, Pakistan and Syria ) have less of the stacheless beard and burkha than the India of now. Well, at least on the burkha part.

In India for the last 10 to 15 years, there has been a big adoption of the burkha. Same in the Western world.

What has certainly happened in recent times is increased activism by the Tableeghi Jamaatis. But this corresponds to the TJ movement's increased activism across the world.

Until 2014, there had been no special mass crackdown on Muslims here, except for things like the Gujarat riots in 2002. The Bombay riots of 1992-1993 are too distant a memory. Yes, I am taking into account the mob lynchings during and after 2014, and the recent Delhi riots.

Sadly, to a great extent, the Indian Muslims are oppressing and ghettoizing themselves.
