We did ,for a thousand years. US lost because a war of attrition is not in US favor ,US has on land border with Vietnam and US was actually fighting China and Russian, China was the deciding edge of that war.

China had 1.5 million troops along the Sino-Soviet border. Vietnam never faced the full force of the PLA. But this time they will.

There will be Chinese fighters and bombers operating from many of the islands in the SCS.

China has dozens of coast guard ships as well as corvettes and submarines already patrolling the entire SCS.

Chinese artillery can bomb Vietnam back to the stone age without even entering Vietnam. The Vietnam war was fought between the US on one side and Soviets and Chinese on the other. The war just happened to take place in Vietnam. It had nothing to do with Vietnamese fighting the US. The US just carpet bombed the Viets and left.

Soviets were the main backers of Vietnam, but with the Russians needing China due to sanctions, Vietnam is completely isolated. The US won't be able to support Vietnam the way the Soviets did.

Vietnam will eventually return to back to China and become a Chinese province.

The North Vietnam should serve as a buffer zone for China, whereas the South Vietnam should be unified with Cambodia.

Many Vietnamese skin color is lighter than neighboring countries like Thailand, Cambodia. there is a lot of conquerors genes left in Vietnam during the last a thousand years.

It could keep us at bay as, at the moment, we have no aircraft whatsoever to counter the Chinese Shenyang J-15s - the FA-50 we ordered are to arrive around September or October 2015. I am not sure if we can bomb their airbases with OV-10s and SF.260s and we don't expect America to come after what had happened in Scarborough and that some of our politicians could be bribed by the Chinese, in fact, we China had already set up a fifth column here in the PH which have been active since the 70s.

Their J-15 fleet is not enough for Liaoning. And actually, J-15 still unable to operate in carrier as you watch US did with the aircraft carrier until next 2 years. Or they would suffer more losses to their aircrafts and elite pilots.

It's nonsense to say that. An isolated island with small area could be cut at anytime, but a nation with hundred thousand km2 is not the same. Vietnam is same size as Thailand or Japan and connect to the Asia continental.

You can't protect well that island and repair its damage immediately. It takes much more time to do so
