No country, not even the former Soviet Union, can risk a land war with China.
The equipments of 1952's China were utter crap. Then look at the Korean War.
Any conflict with Vietnam no matter where will quickly turn into a land war, because it's the most conevient.
So Vietnam wants to dare China on land war? quite funny.
No need to use any tank. China's precision-guided long-range artilleries alone can cover NorthernVietnam, capital included, 24*7.
And China can churn out artilleries as cheap as many and as quickly as takeaway chopsticks.
Check this thread and see how fast PLA develops
China's faster-than-expected military buildup
You talk big, then you can expect missile raining down on your head in thousands.
As an American, this post gave me chills, and made me remember my country's experience there. De Gaulle warned us. We didn't listen. So many countries in history thought they could conquer Vietnam. None did.real combat is not like what you imagine. US ever think that they could win simply by push some buttons. See war at IS and Vietnam War.
during thousand years of history, Vietnam fought hundreds land battles with Chinese, Mongols, Siam ...
the latest war is in 1979 which is a outnumbered by Chinese too. And everybody know what happened after few weeks.
about the bombing, everybody know Vietnam survived under the heaviest ever bombing raids by USA which China need decades to reach that leverage.
Missiles are just some sand particles, so don't depend much on those. an ordinary warhead is just like a single bomb by weight.
We have missiles to shoot back too. We have some types could bring nuclear warhead too.
You know we could do anything to defend ourselves.
That was my feeling to this "unsinkable" theory for all, but as long as war doesn't happen this could work as a bases for observation.Surely it is unsinkable, but is it unbombable??
It's right on the edge, where would we move it to? If we could move it. For movable, carriers will be built.so unsinkable and immovable. .
well, yea. That's what American troops in Japan is doing. I doubt the Americans think they will defeat China with 50,000 men.I think there may be several dozen fisherfolk families there. Perhaps a company (or two) of PLA, or PLAN Marines living in the island. As for air defense , air patrol presence, perhaps a squadron or so, nothing more. This island serves as a command and control nexus for them, but it cannot handle any more troop presence due to its size. Due to its size, it cannot be used as a launching pad for an invasion to any country in Southeast Asia; it would simply be noticed via reconnaissance platforms. And would be susceptible to a preliminary surgical airstrike.
I don't think they PLA Military Command would be as so unwise to use this island as a launching pad. It serves as a reconnaissance nexus for them.
name some, don't just say believe, I believe Aliens exist, but until evidence surface, we can't say it does.I believe there are many air powers in Southeast Asia with very capable air force projective power. I would also mention that there is even a super power lurking about.
Now, I'm not saying that an airstrike would be done soon or it would be opportune for the region. Nay, it would be anti-thetical to a fortuitous relationship between ASEAN and China. And thus it would be counter-productive for the region.
I am merely saying that given the island's close proximity to several Southeast Asian nations', an air strike would be...well within the capabilities of said states.
you are right, we are way stronger now, you on the other hand, not so much.your picture come with terrible data.
right, I'm sure Saddam was thinking the same thing, right up until he was dug up in a hole.wrong data, so I want you to verify your source.
how many aircrafts out of nearly 6,000 from China could engage a possibility battle in Spratly islands?
the first act if war happen would be destroying that airstrip by P-35 missiles.
really, so pretty much not only does history pre America don't matter, non American also don't matter? As an American, this post gave me chills, and made me remember my country's experience there. China did it again and again. not like USA and France. The first ( thousands year ago ) and the last clash in 1979 all belong to China.
We used to be familiar with the readiness to fight back them when they attempt to invade us.
Anytime during thousand years. How amazing !!!

That will only happen in case of a pre-emtive attack from China, and as we all know, big nations always need reason to attack (i.e US used WMD as reason to attack Iraq, Russia used supporting independence movement to interfere in Ukraine, hell even Nazi Germany posed as being striked first before attacking Poland). So a Chinese pre-emtive attack is unlikely (though VN was wrong once about that). Also I believe your govt has some aces up their sleeves to quickly damage the airstrip beyond usable quickly after a possible war happens. After all, the airstrip is in middle of the ocean, with limited supply to maintain and repair it. VN has its own plan to deal with the airstrip too.Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia can bomb it. As for us in the Philippines, it is the other way around - they could bomb us from that air base.
