You misunderstood what I said. I didn't say CCP prohibits people from touching each other's heart. I certainly didn't say CCP doesn't try to touch people's hearts. What I said is that CCP prohibits people from touching each other's heart IN THEIR OWN WAYS. In China, you can do whatever you like as long as it is sanctioned by CCP. For regular folks living in China, this kind of practice is what they are familiar with for thousands of years. In effect, CCP is practicing feudalism, with high-ranking officials and their families are the new lords and the party secretary being the new emperor. That is why CCP can hold on to its power for a long time and it is important to isolate its people from the rest of the world since feudalism has kind of been out of fashion.
Actually, that's my point. Old fashion idea can't hold tight in today modern world life. Specially when information can be obtained very easy everywhere. Ok, CPC has their internet great wall that prevent their people obtain information from aboard. But what prevent those people from getting VPN, and get new ideas that make them think that neighbor's grass is greener than your own lawn? Even today there are a lot of foreign propaganda that exactly do that, to sway those 1.4 billions people heart. They can always have a forum / social media that prohibited by the government to gather simply by using VPN. Even if VPN is considered as illegal, they can still obtained it easily in the internet, touch each other's heart IN THEIR OWN WAYS without being able to prevented by CPC. And it is not that hard to bring millions people to join, if they really hate CPC. Once they can get enough, what PLA can do to hold them?
Remember, since the ancient time, it is the government that follow the popular demand rather than people follow the government. Roman Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity just because that religion was the most popular idea among his subject. Mongol Princes and Khan embrace Islam in Central Asia just because it is the religion that embraced by the majority of their population. CPC can't hold their seat if they don't follow the trend of Chinese civilization today. Nobody can. If someday the majority of Chinese population demand democracy, CPC can't do anything except change their way in order to survive, and prevent China to become like Syria.
And those 1.4 billions people of China are not stupid. According to data, almost all of them are literates. There are hundred of millions University graduates. Smart people value freedoms more than literates one. They value their own freewill more than ancient people in Imperial China. they're harder to satisfied than those poor peasants in early 20th century. IF CPC still embrace old fashion idea, and strictly hold on that old fashion one, CPC will definitely fall. Even if there are only 200 millions discontent people in China has already can destroy the country. Because PLA can't stand against a massive rebellion of that extend.
So the only way for CPC to hold their power is by following the trend, and let their people satisfied. They can plan any crazy ideas but, if those ideas are unpopular, it will cause discontent among the population. And believe me, that is very dangerous for some kind of authoritarian Government. With democracy, when people discontent with the government, they can choose other choice and prevent a bloodshed. But with a single authoritarian government, when people are discontent, then they're doomed. Because the only choice that those people have is bloody revolution.
