Linguistic nationalism is quite widespread in South Punjab. It's on the rise in North Punjab. A lot of North Punjabis now see each other as Potoharis rather than belonging to some other tribe or something etc. In more northern regions of Potohar, people don't even call themselves Punjabi. Like people of Rawalpindi, Murree and Attock almost always call themselves Potohari rather than Punjabi. People of Chakwal and Jhelum call themselves Punjabi usually, but the educated ones know that they're Potohari rather.
And I'll admit, I get a bit confused myself when people call me a "Punjabi". I don't think we ever used Punjabi as an ethnic demonym. The term Punjabi reminds me of that Lahore and Sikh culture, where they do all that bhangra and stuff. It all sounds pretty alien to me to be honest, like I don't feel any cultural similarities with those guys. With that said, I have no issue with staying in Punjab, however if other provinces like Hazara and South Punjab get made, then I'd like a Potohar province too. And yes, noon will win in Potohar.
