I don’t see any anti corruption drives recently so I see that the opposition must have reduce Xi’s power. Additionally someone leaked that Xi did nothing for a week after confirming about the COVID 19 outbreak. If he is in full control this info would never be leaked.

You didn't need to leak it. In both initial outbreak, and floods, even provincial heads heard nothing from Beijing for weeks while they were ready to start jumping out of their skins.

It's quite a public knowledge now what a panic it was in government at all levels.

I heard Hu may take the role of PM after Li Keqiang retired.

A PM must come from vice premiers, if the promotion hierarchy will be observed by Xi.

Only Hu can pass by the age limit, but so wouldn't Xi. Age limit is a big taboo, but if Xi is to break even it, he will likely not bother following the official promotion schedule as well, and place just any of his loyalists there than risk getting an another person who will be a pain like Li for the next 5 years.

Maintaining power in CPC in like a whack a mole and et tu Brutus at the same time. New upstart factions always appear, and a lot of time they are splinter factions of the establishment.

Jiang Qing was arrested by the most loyal unit, whose head was dog like loyal to Mao.

Hua was deposed by his closest proteges, who defected with Deng in hopes of reward.

Hu Yaobang was betrayed by his closest supporters who didn't back him when Deng and "elders" teamed up on him.

Zhao was betrayed by his "liberals," who sided with Deng in hopes of promotion in the next govt. (they didn't get it.)

Deng himself was sidelined by a man who was handpicked by another member of his "elders" clique — Jiang. The Shanghai faction of "Dengists" too over Deng's camp.

Jiang was being backstabbed for all his years in power too, but was quite good at evading political attacks. Only time will tell, and don't think anything special will come in 2022, unless another black swan appears. I can only see a very remote chance of the party collectively ganging on Xi, and forcing him into just any concession that will allow them to come back into power after him.

Xi is now in the weakest position he has been since 2017, but I don't see anybody, but some small fish like expiring princelings like Ren making attacks on him.
