HONG KONG – Chinese Deputy Premier Hu Chunhua was once overlooked for promotion by President Xi Jinping, but through deft maneuvering and intra-Communist Party alliance-building, the 57-year-old is fast emerging as the paramount leader’s most likely eventual successor.

His emergence comes at a time when many question if Xi’s eight-year rule as Communist Party General Secretary-cum-President is as unassailable as it seemed just six months ago, before the global pandemic hit China’s turbocharged economic growth, tensions with the United States hit a fever pitch and Yangtze River floods deluged several key southern provinces.

By any measure, 2020 has stress-tested Xi’s rule as never before, to the extent that some observers and analysts have sharpened their focus on who might be next in line. Such succession speculation is rising as anti-Xi sentiment reportedly quietly simmers under the veneer of deference inside the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Xi Jinping is likely to rule indefinitely at this point so is there any use in pointing out a successor?

The third Type 075 LHD has come up. So Xi was assigned the responsibility and is committed to fix the Taiwan and West Pacific issue. Maybe thereafter he will fix the Indian Ocean issue as well.

Hu Chunhua is even more hardliner than Xi. Unlike Xi who doesn't have real experience doing political repressions, Hu Chunhua was deputy chairman of Tibet. Hu also purged 800 senior officials when he was chairman of Guangdong.

Hu Chunhua also views talking to the press and answering questions as beneath him.

If he does succeed Xi, expect Xi policies to remain unchanged.

So basically Hu Chunhua is just like Xi Jinpin, another all-action-no-talk type guy? I like that.

I heard Hu may take the role of PM after Li Keqiang retired.

Li is not confident enough, he also flirts with unorthodox ideologies. Any source (Chinese) on Hu succeeding Li?

Well, some oversea Chinese media, may not be very accurate considering the source.

u.s should be worried about danger to their democracy as trump is preparing to delay elections on excuse of corona virus pandemic and not want to leave office

I don’t see any anti corruption drives recently so I see that the opposition must have reduce Xi’s power. Additionally someone leaked that Xi did nothing for a week after confirming about the COVID 19 outbreak. If he is in full control this info would never be leaked.

What kind of logic is this? Anti-corruption drives are an emergency measure, they're not the norm. There aren't any more of them because they've fulfilled their purpose - whether that purpose was containing corruption or destroying Xi's opposition.
Additionally someone leaked that Xi did nothing for a week after confirming about the COVID 19 outbreak. If he is in full control this info would never be leaked.
Who "leaked" this and is this leak even credible?

It's funny, Xi abolished term limits on himself after a single term in power with a couple of votes against out of thousands for in parliament and people still question his authority. I guess people have an unquenchable thirst to fantasize and gossip about palace intrigues.

It's been leaked that the US is planning a coup with the opposition to replace Xi with Wang Qishan and install Guo Wengui as vice president. True story.
