Hello Friends,

Indian Navy needs more LPDs and this is my idea of how should be our LPDs

In my opinion we should at least have 2 LPDs (INS Jalashwa doesnt count as it can not be used in war)

But they should not be only LPDs but also have huge land attack and anti ship capability

Here are the specifications of Proposed LPDs

Weight:18,000 tons

Length:600 feet

Width:90 Feet

Armanament

1 xAK 130

2 times more Barack 1 NGs and LR-SAMs compared to P15As

20x Nirbhay LACMs with 1,000 KM range

28X Anti Ship missiles with 600 KM range

Capacity to Carry 1,000 Soldiers/ dozens of IFVs and MBTs

10x interceptor missiles with ability to shoot down missiles with 5000 KM range (AD-1 and AD-2)

I have named this Class of LPDs after Maharana Pratap, whom I respect

I think we need such LPDs which can carry less soldiers (compared to pure LPDs which can carry 1500 soldiers) but can also act as Arsenal ships with limited ABM capacity

you've forgot to put helos in there...actually a LPD/LHD isn't made for land attack purpose..its a carrier ship that carries troops and tanks with Helos..its the support ships which will be assigned for other roles.India needs to operate around 10-15 helos, around 800-1000 soldiers and around 30 MBTs from that LPD..so,there will be no room for land attack missiles in that ship..

Do we have examples of such ships from other countries?

A heavily armed LPD is a bad idea in my opinion. A ship with such firepower would also face most of the hostilities. Every adversary would want to take it out any cost and throw everything they got. This would put the ground troops that it would be carrying in a lot of danger. Kinda like putting all your eggs in the same basket. :undecided:

IN has a tender for 5 heavy amphibiouis assult docks of 25000 tons and as for name-indian navy doesn't name after persons..either cities or geographical features or sanskrit generic words.

I know and these ships can carry two N-Dhruv easily

As I already stated these are not pure LPDS but LPD-Cum-Arsenal Ships

Such ships would be good as they will offer more capability

And there is something like battle of accounts

probably these ships are first of their kind

The proposed ships in OP can be built in CSL and I think we must learn to design and build LPDs on our own

The ships you have mentioned are meant to be bought from foreign nations or built indigenously, good if it is the later case

US LPDs can carry 1500 soldiers

The ships I proposed in OP sacrifice some of the soldier carrying capacity to make room for LCAMS and An Sh Missiles

thats where you're wrong..LPD/LHd is always aimed to carry helos to support initial ground offense,be it transport helos or attack helos..2 Dhruv is too few...and these ships will not operate alone..its better to perform one ship's designated roles..role changing generally harm more than good..these LPDs,if work alone, will be a sitting duck against fighters, and an ideal target as well..2 missiles, and 1000 soldiers with near billion dollar equipment along with around 700-800 million dollar ship will vanish within minutes..

These LPDs will have twice SAMs compared to P15A

So, you put troops and vehicles on a ship but without any means of landing (helicopters, LCAC etc) them from the ship? This means you either have to use a harbor or deploy by swim-out (which effectively limits you to amphibious vehicles and rules out any tanks and heavier MICVs). You'ld have put your precious ship well inshore, where it will be more vulnerable to attack and where its long range strike assets are rendered relatively useless.

So, start by scratching any troop/cargo capacity and making it an arsenal ship proper. What you end up with then is a relatively slow ship (sincs LPD based), which will be totally dependent on escorts for ASW (since no self defence assest in that area). Certainly not an asset to be put in a task force together with a carrier, as it will slow down the carrier group and make it vulnerable.
