So it is better than JF-17 but inferior to LCA Tejas Mk-1, right?
right cause there is lot of confurion about the actual range and wieght of LCA as reluctant foriegn maal lobby of IAF delibaretelli lied about its actual range & wepons load to sabotage it they always told it range as that of with full wepons load and in very low altitude(400m to 1.5km) while the norm is in medium(6-8km) altitude with bare minimum wepons load rest you can speculate yourself :coffee:

Title suggested KAI Fa-50 not LCA Teja ,every title started for thunder ended up with LCA ,LCA is a great fighter but it is still not cleared due to technical failures and most probably its development cycle will continue just like any other bird regarding FA-50 average cost is around 25 Mil US $ for basic trainer version so it will be interested to see with all the capabilities mentioned in title what will be the cost per unit then will be

who cares about FA-50 but well even if we forget DSI what is interesting is that article for the first time clearli states that ELM-2032 has a tracking range 150Km for a 5m2 RCS target (alleged RCS of JF-17 loaded with 4 AtA missiles and a external feul tank) and since we also have the same on Tejas hence prooved tejas too has the same tracking range which busts pakistani fanboys claim that tejas has a tracking range of 80 km while there JF-17 has a range of 130Km for 5m2 target meaning a tejas can shoot and scoot on a PAF fighter even before it is able to launch its missiles against tejas :dance3:

Because the FA-50 has about the same max payload and number of weapon stations as the JF-17. Its radar, the EL/M-2032 also boasts enough range to make the FA-50 a proper BVR fighter. The thing is also capable of precision strike and is on track to getting an ALCM of its own (a lighter version of KEPD 350).
We can say this about the first block. However as it have been discussed, the JF-17 will be/and is and evolving program. The open structure architect of the plane enables to fit in a HUGE number of modifications as per requirement. I tis like saying that the true competitor of FA-50 is F-16. Yes, the F-16 as its initial blocks were inferior to the current confirmation of FA-50. The Jf-17 designed as a fighter jet will keep evolving into a much more potent one as time passes and new blocks are introduced while the FA-50 already made from alternations in a trainer jet will remain pretty much the same as it is not.
JF-17 as far asi am concerned will be in the market as a replacement of older migs (untill Mig 29 i would say) and F-16s. The relative lower prices, lower maintenance costs, a lethal weapons package both for air-to-air (in shape of SD-10 and up coming PL-15 for BVR and latest PL10 for high off bore WVR targeting) excellent long to medium range ground/ship attack missiles and munitions, the satellite support, reported upgrades regarding hard points, a reported AESA (confirmed by multiple sources) these are the things that will be the selling point of this plane. One can take the reports of two export orders as an indicator.

there are at least 14 tejas prototypes testing in three diffrent varianst since it first flew in 2001 so its not still 15 years

tejas is already tested & retested again and again with full load on all altitudes , day&night conditions to land or take off from very small runways and also intigrated & tested for DASH HMDS , EL/M-2032 Radar , Lightning3G3LDP,4axis FBW,Python5-Derby-IDerbyER-R73 combo along with PGMs like paveway and all kinds of LGBs and smart stand off range munations like Spike250 and some clssified ALCMs & anty ship & anty radar missiles all it need is retratable IFR probe & OBOGS for which work is already in full swing

why we dint order it well that because of corruption in owr civil & militarry beurocracy & former UPA goverment but who am i telling you already know all this but its your pride which dosent lets you aknowledge it as what LCA has achived so far is planned for you Blk2 & 3 Jf17s and you know it cheers mate :coffee:

Tejas grounded after snag in landing gear

For almost 3,000 hours of flying, the made-in-India combat aircraft “Tejas” was a pilot’s delight, but within months of joining the Indian Air Force (IAF)’s fleet, these jets have been grounded because of nagging problems with their landing gear.

This major snag — the first since the military jet’s maiden flight in January 2001 — has showed up at a time when the country’s air strike wing is contemplating induction of 120 of them to make up for the depleting strength of its squadrons. With the Union government taking a decision to acquire only 36 Rafale fighters instead of 126 as originally planned under the multi-billion dollar, medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) contract, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha has spoken of the need to add at least six squadrons (108 fighter aircraft) to shore up the total strength to 42 squadrons, and indicated his preference for an advanced version of “Tejas”.

Sources in the ministry of defence (MoD) told this newspaper that IAF pilots encountered problems with the landing gear of “Tejas” twice — first in Bengaluru and the second time in Jaisalmer after a round of weapon trials at the Pokhran range. The fighter was flown from Jaisalmer to Bengaluru with its landing gear deployed after the second incident. The upshot: the entire fleet consisting of fighters, the naval variant, trainers and prototypes have been grounded. “Occasionally, test pilots have attempted solo sorties, but the problem with the landing gear persists,” sources added.

Sources in Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), Bengaluru, confirmed that the snag has resulted in discontinuation of flights of these military jets but disclosed that the glitch would be fixed soon as the cause for malfunctioning of the landing gear has been identified.

The first “Tejas” combat jet was handed over to the IAF in Bengaluru on January 17, 2015, by defence minister Manohar Parrikar with the first squadron set to be based at an air force station in Sulur, Tamil Nadu.

  • 25 April - The first Limited Series Production LCA (LSP-1) made its first flight and it reached a speed of Mach 1.1.
  • PV-2 and PV-3 underwent sea-level trials at INS Rajali Naval Air Station, Arakkonam to study the effects of flying at sea-level, as all earlier trials have been conducted at Bangalore which is 3,000 feet (910 m) above sea-level.[3][4] The reliability of the LCA systems under the hot and humid conditions, as well as low level flight characteristics was tested.[5][6] It is due to this intense flight testing schedule that the LCA was not able to fly at the Paris air show-2007, as was originally planned.[7]
  • 7 September - Tejas Prototype Vehicle (PV-1) made a successful maiden flight with two 800 litre drop tanks.[8][9]

  • LCA Tejas prototypes PV-2 & PV-3 underwent hot weather flight trials at Air Force Station, Nagpur from 28 May 2008 to 4 June 2008. The trials were declared successful.
  • 16 June - Tejas second Limited Series Production LCA (LSP-2) made its first flight and it reached a speed of Mach 1.1.
  • 7 November - LCA Prototype Vehicle-3 made first successful night flight.[14]
  • 13 December - PV-3 and LSP-2 completed the high altitude trials at the Leh air base.[15]

FA-50, the fighter derivative of the increasingly popular T-50 trainer is looking very promising

In the world of modern day fighter aircraft, there is a market that is entering a phase of maturation. This is not the market of up and coming so-called “5th generation” fighters such as the F-35 Lightening II or FC-31 Gyrfalcon, which are only just entering service or are in the late stages of their initial development cycle (respectively). Nor is this the market of venerable and mature modern day fighters such as the F-16 and MiG-29. Rather, it is the market composed of new lightweight but relatively very capable and versatile fighters in the form of the JAS-39 Gripen, JF-17 Thunder, Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) or Tejas, and FA-50 Golden Eagle. Although the first three are well-known to a lot of enthusiasts, the FA-50 Golden Eagle is perhaps the most unsung and uncelebrated, especially given the surge of export orders it has garnered and the capabilities it is on-track to acquiring in the coming years.

The FA-50 is the fighter derivative of the T-50. The T-50 was developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) with the help of Lockheed Martin. The T-50 conducted its maiden flight in 2002, and was envisaged as a ‘lead-in fighter trainer’ (LIFT) platform which could be used for advanced jet and fighter conversion training. The Golden Eagle platform is powered by a General Electric F404 turbofan, which offers 78.7kN of thrust with the afterburner on; the F404 is also used by the LCA Tejas and the JAS-39 A/B and C/D (albeit as a licensed Volvo-built version).

It would be a disservice to label the FA-50 as simply being capable of light attack and air defence roles, for KAI has actually committed to developing the FA-50 into a genuine fighter solution. A good start would be to simply examine the FA-50’s maximum payload, which sits at around 3700kg split across seven weapon stations or hardpoints. It is not very far off from the JF-17 (~3700kg), so it is clear that the Golden Eagle fighter platform is directly comparable (and this is not the only area where it is in close proximity to fighters such as the Thunder and Tejas).

The FA-50 uses the EL/M-2032 radar developed by the Israeli firm ELTA (Flight Global). The EL/M-2032 is a solid multi-mission radar capable of detecting and tracking aerial targets at a maximum range of around 150km (likely 5m2 RCS). That kind of capability basically enables the FA-50 be a proper air defence solution, one capable of effectively using beyond visual range air-to-air missiles (BVRAAM), which is what KAI brought to life by integrating the AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) to the FA-50. It is not out of the realm of possibility to one day see the FA-50 equipped with high-off boresight (HOBS) within visual range air-to-air missiles (WVRAAM): Potentially the AIM-9X? Perhaps the Rafael (another Israeli firm) Python 4? Maybe the Denel-Mectron A-Darter (which is being considered by Pakistan for use on the JF-17 Block-III)?

It is possible that the FA-50 could also be offered with the Rafael Sky Shield electronics warfare (EW) suite. Given the cooperation seen between KAI and ELTA thus far, this is not a surprise (though its release would be conditional on the customer as well, it is unlikely Israel would sell it to just anyone). This would enable the Golden Eagle to engage in electronic jamming against radars. This is a complete solution, one that even includes digital radio frequency memory (DRFM), which basically allows the EW suite to copy a received radio signal and then retransmit it. In EW and electronics counter measures (ECM), this is a very important capability to have, especially when one is against capable EW emitters (which try jamming radars with their own radio signal emissions.

But in the end, the above still may not be enough to convince skeptics. “How could a platform designed as a trainer be a fully operable fighter?” The physical specifications aside (which are comparable with the JF-17 and LCA), it is possible – if not very likely – that KAI and Lockheed Martin designed the Golden Eagle to be a relatively affordable multirole fighter platform for countries unable or unwilling to acquire medium-weight platforms such as the F-16. With that in mind, they equipped with FA-50 with the subsystems necessary to stand, toe-to-toe, with its competitors (e.g. JF-17).

The ELTA EL/M-2032 radar and AMRAAM given the FA-50 solid air-to-air capabilities (it includes data-linking as well, which would be useful for air forces in possession of network-centric capabilities), but what about air-to-surface? Well, the FA-50 can carry Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM)-kit equipped Mk-8x series bombs. So one can obviously conclude that the jet is capable of deploying satellite-aided precision guided bombs (PGB). The FA-50 is evidently even marketed with the Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod, clearly indicating that it is capable of carrying laser-guided bombs (LGB) as well. Besides PGB and LGB, the FA-50 can even be equipped with the AGM-65 Maverick air-to-surface missile as well as a guided sub-munitions dispenser (i.e. CBU-97).

Granted, there is one area where the FA-50 has yet to be equipped for, and that is stand-off range air-to-surface missions, such as anti-ship warfare (AShW). Fret not, South Korea is working on that as well. There has been recent talk to develop a lighter and smaller version of the MBDA-Saab KEPD 350 air-launched cruise missile (ALCM) for use on the FA-50. In fact, it is possible that this new KEPD-variant could even double as an anti-ship missile (AShM), thus serving as a single source stand-off strike solution. It is not uncommon, especially in recent years, to see ALCMs double as AShMs.

Taken together, the FA-50 is quite the compelling solution, especially for (or perhaps limited to) countries with stable and comprehensive relations with the Western world (given how deeply-linked the FA-50 is to various Western vendors). Of course, not every FA-50 buyer would exercise or be able to access every extensible aspect of the fighter, though a handful might. Thus far the FA-50 has won export orders from Iraq and the Philippines (Indonesia and Thailand selected the T-50 LIFT system).

Nonetheless, the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) is on the right track with this platform, and it has turned out to be a solid successor for its F-5A/B Tiger II. It will be worthwhile seeing how KAI plays around with the airframe design, especially as the question of integrating an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar enters the discussion. Could we perhaps one day see an enlarged and more powerful FA-50 variant? Maybe.

This plane offers similar and some mature capability but its not a true competition for the JFT Block II and III's. More than anything, this aircraft is based on US designs. For example, AMRAAM integration, etc. And the market that the JFT is after (to replace aging Migs and Mirages across the Central Russians States, Africa, and the ME), the Korean plane won't compete there, as the US wouldn't want our sensitive tech to go to majority of these hands.

Plus Koren fighter having better engine and weapons (AMRAAM), at this time, is still more expensive. In fact, the US jus declined Korea's request to transfer 12 jets to a Central Russian State for $ 400-500 million. At $ 400 million, jet's cost to fly is around $ 35 million. That's expensive and has the US tech in it. IMO, the JFT needs to be built in numbers ASAP and then a marketing campaign needs to happen pretty intensely to get some sales in ASAP!!

thing is no nation barring russia , france ,china & USA have the capacity to make an entire fighter jet on there own its not that era of piston engined or early 60s to late 70s things are way way more streched owt now in almost all the aspects of fighter jet designe & manufacturing

now the thread is about Arjun MK2 and its coming owt as expected onli point of concern is that its around 5tonne hevier than planned which i guess will be taken care of in the next gen which is onlines of the new unmanned turret design but rumor here is growing very strong that at least 240 more will be orderred in next couple of months apart from the current order and the new version of TANK-EX is under R&D (improoved T72 Chasis with new suspension and engine & improved and lighter version of arjun MK2 turret)

thank you sirji for your coopration well all my posts on this thread onli mean one thing thatLCA tejas or arjun MK2 is a great research platform but over wieght and yet needs some problems to be tapperred owt but it has helped us setup a new R&D and testing-manufacturing base for defence and aero space industyr & heavy vehicles hence its not a waste as many pakistani fanboys want to think :coffee:

Actually, if you cut the hate speech dear you will notice that it is not the Pakistani fanboys who say these things, it is your and air force and army. They are the ones who are not interested in getting these inducted if you want to blamce Pakistani members for that too, it will only make you look ridiculous sir

However, if you are justifying by saying that these complete projects were just meant for research and never intended to play a role and produce actual war machines, then i will understand it all. You can afford such things with your economy yaar, so why should we cry about it that you guys ran a complete fighter jet projects worth billions and another one for tank just for research purpose,,,

MODS and TT cannot be every where all the time so everyone address the problems he come across. If there are abusive trolling posts that you feel are inappropriate, feel free to report them or tag me there so necessary action can be taken.

thing is tejas project has been instrumental in establishing a full aviation industry in india and with all the diffrent susbideries & R&D labs like for body frame , composites , hydrolicks , diffrent tyoppes of testing equipment and infrastructre , radars , avionicks , engine and amny other departments which will cut time for the future projects and the mismangement in tejas also made us learn many new techniques so dont worry for all this infra and production of all those prototypes and defnce labs and production facilities and purchase of foriegn equipment like engines , radars, avionicks and wepons whole tejas project dint cross 2 billion dollars till date which is very very economical for us .... i hope you get the point now :coffee:

What bothers @batmannow ? Bro you are on a Pakistani forum, discussion Pakistani weapons and you feel that he or us are bothered by Indian weapons? I think your mere presence here proves it is the other way around. :)

ya you are right that as declared enemies we both have curiosity about each others wepons system but you see we all are muhib e watans of owr nations hence there are some unavoidable fire works hope you dont find my posts too offensive for your taste i try to be as respectfull and civil as i could be and never make fun or abuse other persons nation , relegon and gods or parents but get agitated when someone does it and try to register my sincear objections for which certain TTs and there side kicks gang up and report unesasarrlly and give me -ve rating when they are not even require i think you know what im talking about .... cheers mate :coffee:
