What's new

The good things Overseas Pakistanis have done for their home countries

first generation of overseas care for their native countries but there is a new generation who born there and they have not much care for the countries from where their parents belong and such affects will become more evident once their parents leave this world
Yeah, I know them too. But they are mostly over-westernized people or one parent is a native of the country they are living in. Daddy had a relationship with mommy just for visa purposes and left after the paperwork was done... unfortunately there are such people out there.

.
I will not discuss that with you any further. Just agree on the fact that Pakistan is not a socialist utopia. We are an Islamic country. And the hate you have for our religion is just disgusting.
Delima is people living outside they know Islam is the best solution for our life and country which is try but people in Pakistan they thing living in west is better than Pak so they want to get out of the pressure society create and on top of that molvies who represent kind of islam which is not uniting us. we have to sort out many thing.
but yea its true Charity is in our DNA but we have to use our money on those who are actually in need.

.
what I fear is that in next 10 to 20 years when most of overseas Pakistanis who are in their 50 and 60s and will be replaced by new generation we may face decline in remittances as new generation have no stake in Pakistan and they have all their younger relatives like brothers, sisters, wives and children living in foreign countries so we should move our economy in such away that dependence on remittance is decreased in future

Folks, don't go nuclear on me. I wanted to include Indians too because I think they have the same issues regarding living abroad. @PAKISTANFOREVER @Indus Pakistan

That's a big problem and many Overseas Pakistanis struggle because of that. See I know an UK Pakistani, always in good health and shape, two kids but his wife died young due to cancer and after that he was so depressed that he lost his job at the Bank. His older brothers and cousins called from Pakistan that his "monthly installment" was late a 10 days or so and he should send money immediately. No one cared about his children, no one cared about his well-being just pay up or shut up. Because if you live in UK, you must be rich and have an unlimited amount of many in your bank account. Yeah and the same low lives will later comment on you like "Ghorea ki tarha bhan ghea hain" (he became white saying that he abandoned his family) or "Aapne Bhehn Bhaio ki koi pechan nehi!" and say that you are not a real Pakistani. For the Whites you are the Pakistani and for the Pakistani you are the White. Vicious circus.

We Overseas Pakistani should only support our core family and even them only to some extent. Why does my cousin have to pay for the new car of his younger brother in Pakistan? He drives and old car too, why should he send 10 Lakh rupees to Pakistan just for fun? Money giving to charity is a better investment.

They say it is our hacum to rob you, these ppl have no empathy.

My uncle bought 8 grand car in Pakistan few years ago and give it to a relative to look after. So his sister travels to pak, this June and needed the car for travel. The car is given to her and is not running properly. So they take it to the mechanic, mechanic says it has been driven hard and engine is messed up. it is going to cost so and so. The mechanic spoke to mu uncle to explain the details. They will wreck your possessions but take utmost care when its theres.

Two things will happen. Indians will derail the thread by trolling or they will usurp the conversation.

We have to de-hyphenate Indians (and BD) from Pakistanis to undo the decades long disinformation campaign against us.

Pakistani experiences in the West are more analogous to Arabs than any others. I see many parallels.

Yet for the sake of specificity, let us keep it about Pakistanis only.

They are not only going to have no relation to us, but much of the new generation are anti-Pakistani and many have left Islam altogether. They will support actions against our country, which is kind of a misreading of their own parents' struggles to leave Pakistan.

It doesn't help that political fugitives of ANP, MQM, N, and others form significant populations in the diaspora.

@Iltutmish Thanks for changing the title.

What is your experience with diaspora Pakistanis? Is it largely negative or positive? Mine is largely negative, honestly.

I see them as mostly lost cause, except a few.

Hello and Salam Alaikum guys!

I hope you are doing well!

I have often read here on the forum that we Overseas Pakistanis don't have a say in Pakistans internal matters. Mostly if we promote traditional Islamic values or if we don't want Pakistan to implement socialist policies that are proven to be toxic for any economy in the world. They know why we left Pakistan. This website is mostly populated by expats posting from abroad.

I find this kind of sad because we Overseas Pakistani have Pakistan in mind all the time. It's very ungrateful to belittle the achievements of Overseas Pakistani. You can check any website with remittance data and see how important the remittances of Overseas Pakistani are for the country. Of course it would be better if no remittances were needed, but the reality is, many families and charities in Pakistan depend on the money Overseas Pakistani send back home.

I will never forget the poor Pakistani waiter I met on vacation in Malta. He shared his place with 5 other foreigners making 600 Euros a month and sending almost everything back to his wife and children. Where is the gratefulness for their sacrifice? Living abroad, working hard jobs and long hours for a little pay. Just to see their family in good old Pakistan happy and fed :S. My late granddad left Pakistans decades ago and he invested in his village not only for the good of our family. He built a school and financed marriages for the poor!

I don't know if giving money away for free is the right thing to do, especially if they are not core familiy (wife, parents, children..). Most people from the extended families develop this feeling of being entitlted to that money without good reason. I know Pakistanis here in the West who were later hated on by their families because they couldn't afford to send money back anymore due financial problems. I don't send any money to my family in Pakistan because they simply don't need it. But giving money to charity is a good thing and ,many succesful Pakistanis making six figures here in Europe are heavily interested in the well-being of our poorer Pakistani brothers and sisters. Being charitable is in our DNA.

What I want to say is: don't have this attitude regarding Overseas Pakistanis, most of those haters would leave Pakistan for good if the fancy European Embassy grant them a Schengen Visa. So stop that please!

What do you say Overseas Gang :D?

Well story is not that straight.

There are Pakistanis who moved with the complete family with complete assets so basically they transfer entire wealth to other countries.

Then there r people like waiter. He is doing this for his family and not for Pakistan as he can't afford them outside Pakistan with 600 euros.

Then there r people who r really helping Pakistan for their love for Pakistan.

In any case none of this is wrong and good examples are admirable but overseas Pakistan cant have a huge say in domestic matters as they are bit away from situation on ground. Otherwise they r as much Pakistani as i am or may be some might be more patriotic than me.

I also strictly believe that people living inside Pakistan should be in control of affairs of Pakistan and not the "know it all mentality expats" so-called experts who consider themselves superior than anyone living inside Pakistan . I am always of the view that the local people know the best what is wrong with their society and what needs to be done and at what "speed" it has to be done in the context of available local resources to bring gradual improvement.

Bro great thread. I said I would contribute so here it is.
So far by the grace of Allah I've set up three substantial projects in Pakistan which provide clear ground water for about 2,000 families collectively. I plan more and my next project will be the summer coming. Sadly Covid may delay my plans.
There's more to come, I have schools on my mind and income generation projects.

Thank you brother for your dedication and committment to Pakistan. This is what I am saying all the time. Pakistanis abroad are mostly interested in the well-being of Pakistanis in Pakistan all the time. These ungrateful attitude towards us is just plain stupid. Some Super-Nationalists think we left Pakistan because of gay marriages and discos in the West. I work hard to have my family here in Germany happy and my siblings and I opened an extra bank account transferring money every month to it and twice a year on Eid we give that money to charity.

For us it's easy, we just save some money and give it to them. The real heros are those brothers (and sisters) who earn next to nothing, live in tiny flats or with 4 roommates, don't have their loved once around, with no money to attend their fathers funeral. But still they do everything for their families and if they come back to Pakistan? They get attitude, too late, too little, you only think about yourself, your are stingy... and some posters made me a Mullah because I have the audacity to say that Pakistani should not deport all Afghans and should not allow gay marriages. Come on!

A main problem here is that our language is not encouraged to learn. Racists teachers say to the parents that they should only speak German with their children at home (but it's totally ok to teach them French and English, but this is a story for another thread). So many teenage Pakistani I know here cannot speak, read or write Urdu which is not so good if you want them to have some connection with Pakistan. And if one parent is a native of the country they are living, yeah, then they are mostly real lost causes. No affiliation to Pakistan, no affiliation to Islam. Brown Germans who complain all the time that the majority of Germans doesn't accept them as equals even though being 110% copies of them.

On the other hand I have contact with Pakistani academics and I often help them writing job applications or finding an apartment. Nice religious people, working hard, achieving excellence in their studies and never miss one single prayer. I admire them the most because their struggle is real.

My experience with Overseas Pakistanis is mixed on the one hand you have these overassimilated woke communists hating everything Pakistani and Islamic and on the other hand just normal people living their life and their religion as good as they can. Most Pakistanis I know here in Germany are blue collar workers with no higher education but these are the most humble and nicest.

Sirf tujh mein hi dam tha bro yeh baat karnay ka
Every Pakistani I know sends some money back to Pakistan. And the money send back home is a major economic factor that helps the country as a whole! It's not a big deal that you never left Pakistan or your village, this doesn't make you a Super Pakistani if you contribute next to nothing... I am not saying that everybody has to do something for Pakistan (I say if you provide for your family and yourself you have done enough), but giving us attitude, saying we have no right to speak about Pakistan? That's just ungrateful!
