The Fight against PKK Terrorism

As I said; industrial and medical uses. Generally!

Actually they are used widely in various fields. I used californium as neutron source for thinfilm application. Not as a material of thinfilm; but detecting its faults in crystal structure. At the same time neutron sources have wide application in mining/drilling.

Every element and everty isotope has various applications. List is very long. But in medical area you have generally 2 major uses. Detection and therapy. You use their radiation to detect something or cure something. Like using a material for inner source of signal in scintigraphy. In therapy you use it as outter source like Co-60 as gamma source in radiotheraphy or inner source like radioactive iode in thyroid cancers or brachyteraphy. Californium is used in hadron theraphy in this case. Generally a good solution for inoperable tumors of soft tissue.
Should the radioactive material not be carried in lead shields? Those i have seen in media were like candy drops in plastic tubes... Or its curie level is too low?

For gamma and xray lead should be used.

Actually for this material you need to carry it in heavy water canister which is shielded with more water around it because californium-252 is basicly a very strong neutron emitter. Lead is not effective against neutron radiation.

Materials which has high amount of hidrogen in it are useful too. Humic and fulvic acid solutions, some plastics etc are useful for absorbtion.

Materials like tungsten carbide (a very well known neutron reflector) useful for shielding isotopes which do not have a chain reaction risk. (You do not use this for plutonium if you do not want to end up like Harry Daghian)
