The Difference between Indian and Pakistani Punjab

Pakistani Punjab is different to Indian Punjab in the diversity of religion. In Pakistani Punjab Muslim are major, Hindu and Sikh are also present. It is not easy for other than Muslim to live in Pakistan. Pakistan is a Muslim country, but it does not have the largest number of Muslim in its county, Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world.

I stopped reading after this, as its the usual BS from Indian media.

.
Separation was done because some Muslim demanded a separate country from them. In the land separation, India was given Gurdaspur – a Muslim majority district and Pakistan was given Lahore. Lahore was a Hindu majority district.

Lahore a Hindu majority district ???

Lahore district (3 Tehsils Lahore, Kasur and Chuniyan) was a Muslim majority district and 60.62 % of the population was Muslim, 16.79% Hindu, 18.32 % Sikh, and 4% was Christian ....

Religion
Indian Punjab has a diversity of religion. Punjabi has widely spoken the language in Punjab. Almost every person can speak in Punjabi and understand it. Mostly all people communicate in Punjabi. Muslims and Christians do live in Punjab and they amazingly speak Punjabi as others. Bhatinda, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Firozpur are the Muslim majority places in the Indian Punjab.

Yes, they were Muslim majority areas before 1947 ... Before partition, more than 35% of the population of the areas that constitute Indian Punjab now was Muslim. Today, Muslims make up less than 2% of the total population of Indian Punjab. And those 2% are not local Punjabis but Muslim laborers from other Indian provinces who have migrated to Indian Punjab.

Indians repeatedly point out that the Hindu population has dropped from 14 % to 1.6% in West Pakistan, but what about the East Punjab where Muslim population dropped from above 35% to less than 1% ?? Muslims were in majority in Tehsils like Ferozepur, Zira, Batala, Gurdaspur, Nakodar, Jullundur, Dasuya etc. but once these Areas were included in India, All Muslims (even) from these Muslim majority areas were either expelled or killed by Hindus and Sikhs.

All medium of instruction in govt schools remain local languages .. even in Panjab univ where I studied our professors used Panjabi from time to time.. despite having students from all around the country...

I have watched many Pakistani shows where almost all comic artists in the show speak Punjabi. But the anchor who is presumed to be more educated than everybody else present, never speaks Punjabi and prefers speaking in Urdu.

For that reason only, I was wondering whether Punjabi is taught as a language or is it just used " time to time " as it is still commonly understood by masses.

Because those comic artists are actually panjabi stage drama artists hired by the tv show..

They try to joke in Urdu ... but fail .. so it’s obvious they’d use panjabi here n there.

And since the shows on nation tv and not for regional audiences.. they keep it in Urdu..

For regional language speakers.. plenty of tv channels are running local channels in local languages...

They are mainstream urdu channels that use punjabi to show inclusiveness. Plus these same artist also deliver punchlines in urdu n do pretty well. But comedy in punjabi is carries some extra strong punch ,also one of our comedians like omar shareef is copied by millioms of worthless indians, likes of kapil something openly cinfess to copying him. Tonnes of indians made their carreers watching and copying umers work even tho all that indians cud manage was crappy comedy. I really dont get why a wrothless mallu dravida is bothered abt punjabi and its usage on urdu channels in pakistan instead of caring abt his dravida nagar crying abt getting hindi impose don them.

Actually I wanted to find out whether any Pakistani university is offering degrees in Punjabi language like many Indian universities do.

lol fyi Holi was made official holiday and Pakistan today has more more than 4 million Hindus by 2050 and Pakistani hindus with more than 6 million will be 4th largest hindu group in the world.
Holi was made official holiday recently. But before that there are no holidays for Sikh or Hindu festivals in Pakistan. https://tribune.com.pk/story/135240...n-no-public-holiday-for-hindus-for-festivals/

You would have to live in India to understand. All you do is 'Thank you Jinnah'.
Anyway, how different is the food?
Anyone actually traveled to both places?
Why did your relatives migrate from East Pakistan to India. They were Razakars.

.
Pakistan always wellcome indian panjabis to visit and share love with us.. But indian panjab does not do the same perhaps because of hijaking by hindutva mindset.

Punjabi language is alive in indian punjab with 30+ newspapers in punjabi languages. It's dying in pakistani punjab due to preference given to urdu by the native speakers. Hardly 2-3 newspapers in punjabi.

True unfortunately.

All famous Punjabi sufi poets are from Pakistani side with only exception of shiv kumar Batalvi. All famous Punjabi music and ghazal , sufi and folk singers are from Pakistani Punjab whther Ghulam ali, nusrat. Rahat, alam/araf lohar, abida parveen. Noor jahan, musarrat nazir etc I have read many comments in coke studio Pakistan where Indian punjabi were saying that Pakistani punjabi singer has maintained orginality and simplicity of Punjabi while Indian Punjabi singers has commercialised Punjabi music and has actually becam
e bollywood music
You are absolutely correct but these poets are from the era when punjabi was patronized by the punjabi. However, people are realizing it now but in past punjabi has been greatly ignored.

Even with Arabic script most of us find it difficult to read punjabi.

Qawwali is a religious music of Sufi from India and Pakistan
How convenient for the author to cherry pick things from Pakistan and label them as Indian. India has nothing to do with qawwali period, and on the other hand saying "not easy for other than Muslim to live in Pakistan" says a lot of his/hers biased thinking.
