Let me think...yhey invaded many parts of british asia, kicked them out of Singapore, attacked usa in their own country, invaded you guys and put you through hell....yeah it all checks out. They were a superpower and they actually did things not just boast.

Just because they were evil doesn't mean they weren't superpower.

UK itself was not a superpower already, and it's in the thick of war which disabled them to put adequet resources to defend faraway colonies, I'll repeat again, no superpower will lose 1 million elite troops in less than 2 weeks, don't compare Japan with today's China, today's China is still a developing country. Matching a superpower, compare with US.

A superpower won't be defeated so easily and should be dominant in global industries, supply chains , military might , top defence industry and overall trade volume, Japan got none of them. it was only dominant in Asia in those regards.

besides, after making the above statement I realized I could be wrong cause we have very few Chinese people joining Englishi language forums and extremely few Chinese write English, if you really like to see how Chinese criticize and even ridicule the government, go to Chinese forums you can find tons of them.

I have read some of Andrei Lankov's research from deep inside the DPRK, true, there must be a lively political commentary scene in China too.

Does the CPC have police and soldiers murder it own citizens? To have prosperity you need stability, law, order AND JUSTICE. The CPC tries to bring that. Bringing Justice is extremely difficult and a slippery slope. 5000 years of disputes, claims and counter claims.

Not as good as a superpower level like US, USSR even Germany, USSR beat Germany with some troubles, but beat Japan like a stroll in a park, a superpower should not be that easily beaten.

Most people only recognize two superpowers after WW1, US and USSR, other countries after WW1 never reached their level of global dominance and power projection, Japan was a regional power in Asia. Japan got beaten by USSR in 9 battle day and lost 1 million its "elite" troops，the whole Kwantung Army.
