The Chinese Century Is Already Over

China has been one of the world's pre-eminent civilizations and the largest economy for most of the last 3000 years. The last 150 years or so where China was weak and backward was an anomaly. We are actually returning back to normalcy with China as a major superpower.

Of course China as a civilization has been there for thousands of years. But the communists have taken over only since 1949. There is a big difference between the two, and it is a mistake to confuse the two. Their time in power may be short, relatively speaking. After all, China is not immune from changes too.

Absolutely.

At the same time, deluded American nationalists have to understand that China HAS ARRIVED AND WILL NOT BE GOING AWAY.

Just like how the US, Germany, Japan all arrived as powerful industrialized nations in the late 19th century. China has arrived in the early 21st century as probably the most powerful industrialized country the world has ever seen. It's not going away. It's actually just getting started.

China will retain its status as a major great power, but will always play second fiddle to the US. It will never have the total comprehensive power or influence the US possesses.

To be quite honest, the Communist Party taking over is what catalyzed China's return as a pre-eminent power because it was the sole organization with the capability of mobilizing the massive population of China to achieve social revolution and industrialization. To just skip over that is to not even understand what modern China is. It's literally the largest, most unified, most mobilized society on earth that now has immense amounts of wealth, advanced infrastructure and among the most advanced technology (in most areas) in the world. China isn't going away. Anybody who thinks it's going to "collapse" is basically living in lalaland because reality is becoming too hard to bear.

China may not collapse suddenly, but it cannot escape its demographic changes and the consequences of its authoritarian communist regime for much longer. Once a baseline level of economic success has been achieved, the yearning for freedom is inevitable. The communists will likely not last much longer after that.

We will see, though I wouldn't bet money on it. The world is changing rapidly as we speak. China gladly played second fiddle to the US for a long time because it was still developing and it prospered under the US led world order. But since the US turned towards a militantly anti-China direction, China now is forced to overturn the US led world order if it wants to continue to prosper and you are seeing the massive geopolitical shifts today as China is using the massive power and size it has built up to build this new world order. It has also been able to achieve so much in short time because the US has been led by a neocon cabal that has weakened the country and also alienated most of the world, thus making it much easier for China to spread its influence.

Because you say so? That's the problem with Western armchair China specialists. LOL Most have never even been to the country or speak a word of Chinese, but they "just know". LMAO The US doesn't understand China, that's why it can never correctly analyze China's actual capabilities or its intentions.

But calling China "literally the largest, most unified, most mobilized society on earth that now has immense amounts of wealth, advanced infrastructure and among the most advanced technology (in most areas) in the world" will not make it so, just because you think so. Others nations work hard too, you know, it is not like China has a monopoly on progress. :D

Those are facts. Only India has more population than China, but is nowhere near as socially unified and mobilized. China is far more unified as a society due to its homogeneity than any Western country, it is a fully industrialized country and its population has been thoroughly indoctrinated through a public education system (like Western societies) and are mobilized to a far higher extent than any Western country.

China will play second fiddle to the US until the Sun blows out.

lol, what nonsense? @ Title of thread.

China will soon have the world's largest economy in GDP Nominal.

Then no will give a damn about what USA thinks.

Some seriously healthy food for thought!
Here we ALL are talking about something which has only happened in human history on fairly small levels: The population decline affecting a country's growth, such as in Japan. The richer 'Asian' countries seem to be reluctant to immigration?? Xenophobia?? But in case of Western countries, they know that immigrants are badly needed and hence they are much more open to immigration. The West is rich and more open to immigration.
Honestly, it would be premature to judge the 'Demographics' as 'timebombs' or 'dividends' at this point; we need to set aside our geopolitical biases to begin to evaluate what is coming. Humanity has never been in such a situation in the recorded history on such scales. Personally, I'd like a border-free world! After some decades of frictions, it will be all sorted out!!! So let's get over our Xenophobia, globally and collectively.

it is going to be the exact opposite - countries will imitate China. Does China allow immigration ? Nope

Chinese state media CCTV’s sharply worded commentary on Thursday said the subtext from Western media in recent years was that China’s development was in “big trouble” and that when the country’s demographic dividend disappears, it will decline and the global economy will also suffer.

“They slandered all the way and China has developed all the way, creating a miracle of sustainable and stable economic development with a huge population,” CCTV said.

“The United States is stepping up efforts to contain China’s development and advocate further decoupling and found new hype points from the United Nations report,” CCTV said, adding that the West simply equated population size with development achievements.

“Such hype lacks a basic understanding of the law of population development. With the development of human society today, the decrease in birth rate and decline in willingness to bear children are common problems faced by the whole world.”

CCTV added that Western developed countries generally faced problems such as labour shortages.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said population dividends did not only depend on quantity but also quality.

“Population is important but talents are also important… China has taken active measures to respond to population ageing,” Wang told reporters on Wednesday.

The country still has over 900 million ‘quality’ workforce, says China .

When you have one child policy for 4 decades every two people are replaced by one person. Of course increasing life spans (60 years to 80 years) have masked the decline. The demographic decline is yet to come and will be pronounced. We are still looking at 1.2 billion people. With robotics and automation China could still be largest and most powerful economy on the planet. I expect 25% of the Chinese population to be old & retired. We are looking at 600-700 million workforce.
