China is very developed in a lot of ways. I worked in Beijing and Chongqing. Very developed cities, excellent infrastructure, roads, highways, and trains. Yet a lot of the folks I interacted with yearned to move to USA and Canada, irrespective of how far China has come.

America's $27 trillion debt, nearing to the collapse of the U.S Dollar due de-dollarization of oil trade by steadily growing list of countries, then add the $1.3 trillion defense budget to an bloated and obese U.S Military spread thin between wars in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and pushing on the edges of South China Sea, Black Sea, Barents Straits and the Mediterranean Sea to pick a fight Russia or China or both. Your precious america is on its last legs, with broken electoral system, divided population of nutjobs interest rates, quantitative morons .... it's only a matter of time before the last gasp and a fatal lunge at war with challenger states.

You can quantum all you want, but there isn't any way shape or form you're gonna weasel your way out of a $27 trillion (and continually growing) debt, black-hole. Even a war won't help you. So enjoy the last ride on the back of your AI, Quantum Computing and Engine Tech .... it ain't gonna save you from your dead end!!

There r only few good 1st tier cities in CN while the rest is boring and very hard to find jobs due to high labor costs and trade war,plus covid.

The fields where the West/Japan/Korea/Taiwan still have a huge lead over China are in the fields of semiconductors, jet engines and space capabilities.

In the field of quantum tech, AI, etc. China is getting comparable to the West or may edge out the West slightly in some sub-fields.

That was true in the early 90s.

I was living in Taiwan then and as advisor on the Taipei MRT.

Taiwan GDP then was 1/3 that of whole of China.

Many of the main intercity highways of China were two lanes, potholed in many places and one lane up and one lane down.

I was also an advisor on Guangzhou MRT and lived in Guangzhou with lots of fun travels all over China.

I just cannot imagine how China becoming what she is now.

Doesn't keep me up. I am not moving to China. The supposed "West" will decouple from China because the Americas, Canada and Europe, we are infested with insane hyper violent Germanics who came from Central Asia. Those people must have simple jobs to keep them occupied and believing they are doing something important. If not then they will demand war. The people they hate and will want to kill are Muslims, Africans and Asians.

Not the Chongqing that I knew and remembered in the mid 90s.
I met a guy from Chongqing a year ago. We had hilarious laughter over a few beers on my recollections of Chongqing and the ferry I taken to her in mid 90s.

The 3 Gorge Dam still being build, and ChangJiang by ferry from Shanghai to Chongqing.

Hotel I stayed in Chongqing cost me about 10RMB a night or so.
With a dragon lady on landing of every floor with a hot water flask looking with great displeasure at my Chinese tutoressaccompanying me on my trips all over China.
