I think jet engine we are behind US by one generation but it doesn't mean we are 10 years behind, we might be 5 years behind if WS15 and CJ2000 can complete on time. Unlike semiconductors, jet engines are pretty static. One technology maybe used for decades.EUV lithography and commercial jet engines are the 2 big items. These are the crown jewel technologies of the US/West.
I want to see the faces of those fools that said China will “never” achieve self-sufficiency in these 2 areas

The most challenging is semiconductors because the goalpost is ever changing.
China is decades behind US jet engine technology. The likelihood China catches up in engine technology is next to none, especially since US has moved on to ADVENT and AETP.
OK. Then wwhy are you so worried? Lol. You seems so desperate to convince me. LolololChina is decades behind US jet engine technology. The likelihood China catches up in engine technology is next to none, especially since US has moved on to ADVENT and AETP.

America's $27 trillion debt, nearing to the collapse of the U.S Dollar due de-dollarization of oil trade by steadily growing list of countries, then add the $1.3 trillion defense budget to an bloated and obese U.S Military spread thin between wars in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and pushing on the edges of South China Sea, Black Sea, Barents Straits and the Mediterranean Sea to pick a fight Russia or China or both. Your precious america is on its last legs, with broken electoral system, divided population of nutjobs interest rates, quantitative morons .... it's only a matter of time before the last gasp and a fatal lunge at war with challenger states.
You can quantum all you want, but there isn't any way shape or form you're gonna weasel your way out of a $27 trillion (and continually growing) debt, black-hole. Even a war won't help you. So enjoy the last ride on the back of your AI, Quantum Computing and Engine Tech .... it ain't gonna save you from your dead end!!

Decades if you talk about situation of 10 to 20 years ago.
Presently the gap is only 5 years, once China release WS-15 it will be ahead in term of performance than current US' engines in services. When that happen there will be no more gap.
Simultanously China is also developing another kind of engines to compete or even surpass US.
And Taiwan still under US control, all mainlandTHE CHINESE ARE LEAVING US IN THE DUST!

The performance and reliability of current Chinese engines were achieved by the US 30 years ago. China isn’t even in the same stratosphere as US jet engine technology.
The gap is a big as the gap between mainland CN and Taiwan, everyone can see itThats why I was telling you, this is valid for 10 years ago.
Soon after WS-15 release .. no more gap. And it is expected to release within 3 years ahead.
