What's new

The Chinese App that does everything: Wechat

why using mobiles to make a phone call? just use a telephone, because it is always pluged in````and why to use telephone, just send a letter, as sending a letter does not need to be pluged in````well, backward society and people will always saying funny things to advancement and progress````

I have to spend weeks every year in London for my PR requirement, I feel going back in time whenever I was in London`````they are much the same when I was there in late 90s and early 00s```
I guess you still don't understand.
Mobile phone is a major improvement over old fixed line phone because it allows you to move around.
Telephone is a major improvement over letter because you get to hear voice of the person you are communicating with and not to mention its instantaneous.

I fail to see what major advantage a phone based payment system bring to me, as a customer. Its neither faster, nor more mobile nor cheaper than a credit card for me. I fail to see any kind of improvement over a tapping based credit card. I have my credit card and for almost all of my purchases, I just need to tap it and I am done. Heck, I can say scanning a QR code is more inconvenient to me. It may be better than carrying cash, but then thats all about it. Otherwise a credit card is better. Not to mention, a credit card is universally acceptable.

All these phone based payment seems to me like a "New is better" kind of argument.

Hope they stay in the era of credit card forever
And how is 'phone payment era' any better?

Finally u found a lame excuse to undermine
Kudos to u
Its a serious point. Phone based payment brings no advantage and only disadvantage over credit cards, with tap enabled. Think for a moment. Not to mention, btw, by responsibly using credit cards I also build my credit history with banks.

NFC and Credit Card payment is one and the same, neither did give you advantage over the other. You will need a phone to use NFC, while you will need a Credit/Debit Card to settle electronic purchases.

People argue you are going to need to have your phone anyway forgot about the fact that you are going to have to have your wallet anyway as well, if you drive, you will need your driver license, if you work, you will have work ID, if you travel, you will have electronic card base payment. (like Oyster, Opal, Octopus and so on) and in some country, you are require to carry government ID anyway, so it is exactly the same in regard to any response.

Don't forget, every NFC payment have to link to your account to begin with, so you would already have a Credit or Debit to start, which basically make NFC a redundant payment gateway
If I have to choose, I choose an all-in-one card and pay my stuff like that, I don't carry a mobile phone everywhere I go.

Wechat is more convenient because it is p2p and every phone has camera.
P2P? I have my bank app which allows me to instantly send money to anyone, if I need. Or paypal if they are only having an email. And honestly, how frequently you send money to your peers. Usually you spend money in some store.

Actually, I find QR code based payment annoying to use, but then that may be just me. Tapping or NFC based payment is most convenient. Phone just gets in the way while tapping. A credit card is simpler and makes sense.

I do agree that P2P might be a usecase, but it feels more like a corner case. May be among school kids or college kids who have to shift small amounts among each other very often.

Have not use QR code base payment for a long time. but probably I would have use cash instead anyway.

I do keep some cash around. Its a habit. During emergency it always work. But then I am among those people who also keep some food grains and frozen meat for 1 or 2 months worth. Just in case.

doomsday prepper?? lol

Anyway, I always used cash, that was the lease traceable, come from a counter-intelligence background, I always try to stay off the grid as much as possible, the true way to completely stay off the grid is actually not to completely stay off the grid. Just need to separate your life and your history.

Yeah, I think the both of us is old fashion.

Don't ever quote me, boat guy, I have no interest talking to you.

Don't want to talk to me then don't get the fact wrong.

If you are right, you won't hear from me dude.

I grew up in a house hold which was once stranded in a massive snow storm and land slide for few weeks. Luckily we had food stored in the cellar.

Well, I can't be judgmental, you are looking at a person who have around 200 cans of spam at the basement pantry....

But than I am not a doomsday prepper, I am just lazy....lol

Don't quote me and stay away from my threads.

Your thread? Since when you own this thread?

This is a public forum, everyone have the right to engage with everyone, you don't want your "Opinion" being engaged? Then don't make wrong assumption, otherwise people are going to dispute you. In this case, it is me.

When you have to live in certain parts of Canada, doomsday is not final day. Its a more of an annual thing.

yeah, I've been, you said you were from BC?

Try coming here in Australia. You will definitely need to have 1 or 2 months supplies, especially if you live in the outback...

I used to live in Dubbo, my next door neighbour is like 20 minutes drive away...

LOL then don't make a wrong assumption then. You keep calling it wrong, I will keep calling on you, and that is not up to you, you can of course stop talking to me, that's up to you.

I think it was the French or Swiss who started NFC payment, so they should be copying them not the Chinese.

You sure you are British "PR" for starter, PR does not exist in the UK, you applies for a "Leave to remain", in this case, it's Indefinite Leave to remain and also, ILR holder required to be in Britain every 2 years not every year.

And finally, if you leave the UK thru Ireland, you won't have exit stamp, which mean you can technically come back before the 5 years visa expire and get another one without people noticing, not sure if you can do that once UK leave the EU tho
I have company and property business to attend in the U.K, surely have at least pay minimum attention to them```ayway, western apps are not up to our standard of user friendness`````and not to mention the whole society's view on new phenomenon is quite convervative and somehow backward especially to the European countries`

Its function and security will become more perfect in the future, and it is the product of the development of the Internet to the present level.
It's a trend, and there may be other things to replace cards
