The Chinese App that does everything: Wechat

. . .
Well, don't know, I just don't want you to get scammed by one of those immigration "lawyer"

Because your definition/requirment of ILR (if you really have them) is a lot different than mine. Anyway, if you are fine with it, I won't say anything more in this sense. I mean, that's your money, not mine :)
yeah, sure, anyway western apps $uck, thats what all I was trying to say``

This is just China version of Apple Pay. Why are people acting like China invented the wheel?
because you are extremely ignorant, Apple pay was a later comer in internet payment compared to Alipay and Wechat pay, and one's payment system is solely based on internet has no hardware requirment on handset, and the other is based on the chip imbeded on handset, which has huge constraint```````in terms of system sophistication and application usability, Apple pay is minor compared to those of China's systems

Huh? There are mobile based payment options in Vancouver as well. No one uses them because cards are so omni-present and so convenient. As far as bio metric payment goes, there are firms here who are experimenting with it. Biometric payment will be nice add-on. In case you forgot your wallet. I have seen thumb-print based payment option here.

african tribes would have smart phones, but the members would perceive the technology useless, as the tribe does not have the necessary eco-system to support all of the functions````as I said before, you never lived in an advanced, cardless, cashless society, thats why you have no clue of the convenience that internet payment has brought to modern society

They really don't have any idea of what we are talking about, we live in different ages.

*Ahem*, all these 'technologies' you are so harping about have been tried by our 'backward, card-carrying, cash-carrying' societies and rejected because they were not better enough than solutions at hand. Incase you are forgetting, our backwards society invented all of these technologies.

FYI, Mastercard evaluated all of these usecases way back in 2013 under the brand QkR. It didn't catch on because it was no more convenient than a card in general use.

BTW, African nations and south asian nations have been also adopting this because for them printing a QR code is cheaper while here in richer societies cards which have been more convenient are preferred.

Honestly, tell me, why should I take my phone out, unlock it, launch an app, scan a code and waste time till camera focuses and the app actually detects the damn QR code.

Instead, I will take my wallet and even without opening it, just tap on the reader and walk away. I will also get a printed bill as well, if I wish. As far as carrying wallet goes, I will have to carry it anyways, my company ID, my insurance card --should I meet an accident-- are in it. If in rare case folks who don't want to carry a wallet, we have invented this premitive but effective solution.

Stick it behind your phone-case and put your cards in it. Ta~da!

No wonder in western societies where convenience is more preferred and banking services are more mature, QR code is not as ubiquitous.

TL;DR New and more complex does not mean better.

Wechat pay and Alipay are both tied with your bankcard, whatever you can do we can do as well with cards, the reason why now most people choose phone payment is just because it's way more convenient, again, we live in differnet ages, you have to experience it before loving it, all foreigners in China fall in love with Wechat and Alipay.

Oh I have, I have used it once. I deleted that app stuff because it was annoying. Scanning is simply annoying, specially in slightly less light. In evenings. Plus, I usually run out of phone battery and I hate if that means I cann't unlock my bike parking. We have a paid bike parking at my work-place and sure enough you can pay using mobile phone. It just gets annoying. So I do what everyone else does, pay using coins or card.

And see the result

You have to be in a cashless society to fully enjoy the advantage, this technology is not only about a phone. agian, I never met even one foreigner in China who doesn't love wechat and Alipay, let me know if you can find one.

Honestly, I as a customer want to Pay and get my Good/Service. I don't care about digital or analog stuff. One of the first lesson one learns in designing good products is that customers Don't use your products because they like to use your products. They use it for its utility. Its a mistake almost all of the engineers make. They think people like to use their products. Hell no. People have problems and if your product can solve it, they will use it. If your product makes it even more problematic they won't use it.

Mobile payment is over-engineered and cumbersome to use if you are used to tap based payment. Thats the simple reason I find it annoying to use.

My society has been cashless since 1995 or so, thank you very much. We have been using plastic money before I was even born. The mobile payment simply does not cut it. And yes, we rarely use cash. Almost never. Cards and card readers are ubiquitous here. You fill your cuppa, tap your card and walk away. You select your umbrella, tap your card and take it out for rent. Return it in 24 hours and pay no rent. Return it later and pay $3 rent.

Vancouver is very much cashless city.

Convince all foreigners living in China.
Yes, it is convenient over say carrying coins. But no more convenient than a contactless card. Actually it is more cumbersome than a card. Put my card's chip in my fitbit and then we are talking even more convenient. Dont even need to take a wallet out. My fitbit's battery also lasts 7-8 days and charges in less than an hour. Make it 2 minutes, even better.

We can do the same in China as you do in Canada, but we choose more convenient phone payment. it's your choice to stick to your old way to do payments. it's a personal choice.

You can not have wechat pay or alipay without having your bankcards, they are the same thing, the difference is the way you pay.
