Hi,
First the assasination, then the agitation and now the blame game has started. In this era of high technology and fast track information period, pakistan, Pres Musharraf and his party members are often clueless how to handle strategic issues about how to tackle this problem of different statements coming out of the ministry of information within the same day. Seems like there is no contingency plan prepared ahead of time for situation like this and even iff there is a plan in place, the implementation is not there.
Times like these, are extremely stressful on the govt officials, but if they prepare ahead of time about these scenarios, they won't have muck on their faces. There were so many different statements coming out through the news media as to the cause of Bhutto's death, but their was no firm denial of the rumours. When the govt came out, there was one explanation at one time and then there was another afterwards. . At this time we really don't know if our media is getting ahead of itself and making up the news and create sensation.
Once it got confirmed that she died of blunt force trauma to the skull, pakistan govt should have performed autopsy on the body. A third party physician from the european embassy or from the U S embassy should also have been involved and present at the time of autopsy and a comprehensive report released including their comments. A dead body does not lie---it will tell you if it has been the victim of a gun shot or an impact.
The dead body of any citizen is the property of the government first and foremost. The govt has the right to perform autopsy to find out the cause of death. They donot have to ask the permission of the relatives to do that task. When national security is at stake, priorities change.
It is a very critical time in the history of the nation and a lot of care should have been taken in releasing this information. Now, Sherry Rahman is bickering about the gun shot wound she saw, when she was bathing the dead body before burial----if the government had done its job properly, we would not be seeing this flame war started. And if the govt say that they had not anticipated this attack, then they are fools who need to be treated worse.
I, myself have been waiting for Sherry Rahman to speak out about this incidence and she will not let go till she destroys everything.
The govt reaction against any agitation had been very slow in sindh and other parts of the country. Right after her assasination, curfew should have been declared in all sensitive areas, rangers and millitary should have called ahead of time and shoot on sight orders given for those involved in the destruction of property. But again, the govt functionaries have been caught with their pants down.
Now one more thing-----remember when years ago I stated that the suicide attacks against americans and other civilians in iraq are not right and to support them, it will come back to haunt us one day----and quite a few of you guys ridiculed me for that-----so tell me now---how does it feel to see your house on fire today and your brothers and sister mutilated bodies lying on that road.
