The Afghan Air Force Is So Short On Planes

The biggest problems the ANA and ANAAF face are budget restraints, and maintenance.

And corruption.

On topic... PAF can donate few J-7PGs to Afghan airforce...

Does/Did Afg ask for such assistance? Does Pak support the present regime in Afg the same way they did with the taliban?

Karzai was an arsehole... and i think Americans would agree on this...

Ashraf Ghani is a much more sane person and our relations are getting warmer/closer...

If the J-7s were to crash, the Afghans would blame Pakistan for "sabotage". No, it's better to help their ground force rather than their air force.

Things were struck because of the mining law which has been cleared by the Afghan parliament.
Which (again) makes my argument all that much stronger.

We totally support the current govt. The talks for providing military equipment are already underway.
what happens to the factions supporting the taliban (afg's opponents). Have they been reined in? also, how do you view India's long term investments in the country?

* We are trying to reign in the Afghan Taliban from multiple fronts, through Arabs, US and China on top of our own connections. Pakistan fully backs Dr Ghani's govt and we won't allow the Taliban to destabilize him.

* We have no issue with Indian investment in Afghanistan as long as its not being used as a front to bankroll TTP, ETIM and BLA.

The second statement is highly commendable - coming from pakistan.

The first statemet - I was asking about the elements within Pakistani establishment that support the Talibani components in Afg. Also, the ground perception for afghanis in Pakistan seems to be deteriorating. How will that be contained?

* General Sharif took the DG-ISI to Afghanistan then the DG-ISI visited Kabul once more on his own. This should tell you that the entire chain of command is on the same page as far as our support for Dr Ghani is concerned. They have offered open support in terms of training and hardware to ANA even fighter air craft. They are also discussing an arrangement under which both forces can go into each other's country in hot pursuit of the terrorists. That kind of cooperation would no 've even happen in the dreams of Karzai. Trust me Pakistan can't be a stable state without Afghanistan and Afghanistan can't survive without Pakistan. We will have to reign in the Taliban however possible to keep the peace in Afghanistan.

* We would have to relocate some new arrivals from Afghanistan back to their country as it stabilizes, however the 3 -4 million Afghan migrants who came after the soviet invasion can't be sent back because their kids are Pakistanis.

.
Pakistan should talk to China and arm Afghanistan Air Force with a squadron of JF-17s. Anyone?

Waste of money why not something with a Propeller which can support COIN effectively

Afghans are buying super Tucano I think which fits the bill perfectly. Even better aircraft for COIN Operations would be Scorpion. It isn't fully operational however.

.
Afghanistan has 86 Mi-17s? Never knew that. Anyway Super Tucanos anti-insurgency aircrafts which will arrive in April this year will be a great relief for Afghanistan airforce.

India is Afghanistan’s most reliable regional partner, the Pentagon has said in its latest Afghan report, the first under the Trump administration.

“India is providing significant training opportunities for Afghan officers and enlisted personnel. Approximately 130 Afghans travel to India each year to attend various military academy and commissioning programs,” it said in the six- monthly report to the US Congress.

“India is Afghanistan’s most reliable regional partner and the largest contributor of development assistance in the region, including civil development projects such as the Afghanistan-India Friendship Dam and the Afghan parliament building,” the Pentagon added.

According to the report which covers the period of December 2016 to May 2017, India has donated limited security assistance, most notably four Mi-35 aircraft.

In May 2016, India, Iran and Afghanistan signed the Chabahar Port agreement opening a trade route into Central Asia and Europe and allowing for the bypass of Pakistan, the Pentagon said.

India enjoys close relations with Afghanistan, and both accuse common neighbour Pakistan of not doing enough to stop Islamist militants operating on its territory.

India provided development aid of Rs 221 crore to Afghanistan between April 1, 2016 and March 27, 2017, according to official figures.
