Thar coal Reserves

1 Tcf Natural Gas per Year
per year
= 27 mrd m3 gas (30 mrd Groningen)
= 24 million tonnes oil
= 37 million tonnes coal per day

are you sure????
the link states otherwise

Please see another link

As a result of wide spread drilling over an area of 9000 km2, a total of 175 billiontons of coal resource potential has been assessed.

175 Billion Ton coal reserve = 4729 Tcf Natural Gas , which is much 5 times higher then above estimate (850Tcf of Gas).:pakistan:

Pakistan's total reserves are said to be around 175 billion tonnes. Not all of it are in Sindh, hence a diff number.

But its in your hands to change all of it. Now isn't it?

No it isn't in our hands. It's in the hand of our leaders. And they will let down us again.

change the leaders man. A govt is only as good as its people.
You need to do something. Without doing anything why are you blaming them. So something and if then you fail, then you can blame them.

Ask media to do sting operations. Vote properly. Object when you see something wrong happening. Get the people united against the govt.

Do something, before the time runs out.

1. these reserves lie where there is hardly any infrastructure.
2. coal is not of good quality. this doesnt mean it should not be explored.
3. there is a layer of water on top of these coal reserves and therefore making extraction quite tricky
4. well we dont have enough money to carry this out on our own and therefore need foreign investors who need time to regain confidence in our economy and political system.

not to disappoint anyone but only trying to highlight the challenges. this project will take atleast 3 years before it becomes active

I am sure a partnership with china could be ideal , 20% for Chinese compay's share , for 10 years, and 80% for gov of Pakistan , and after 10 years 22% for chinese company , and 78% for gov of pakistan

All coal is same once it goes into a furnace and heat/energy is produced

.
The main problem I see here is the initial investment - Coal according to the experts is a bad form of energy which contributes a lot to global warming - The USA had recently directed the world bank ( as in requested) to stop giving loans for coal based projects. Developing countries like BRIC and Pakistan etc cannot sustain without energy from coal though at some point of time they will be forced to reduce / completely stop it's usage - Better for Pakistan to work on it asap

ya china could be ideal but then again you first need to develop the infrastructure etc. which will take time.

and all coal is not same. yes it burns but how much coal you will need to produce given unit of energy? and for how long will you have to burn it? changes the economic dynamics of any such project.

We need to stop burning our gas reserve for cooking , Saudia is using gas for producing PVC and polyurethene which is very high value product used in plastic industry and earning 30BUD per year.

Coal can be used for producing electricity for 100 years or more

I am very sure, Reliance, ONGC, and especially Coal India would very interested in these regions. Coal India is just crazy for coal mining, its starts mining almost everywhere. Its the largest coal mining company in the World.

I don't think its impossible to carry out a deal between Coal India and Pakistan govt.

I dont know why the pakistani gov is blind on this gods miracle to pak!

Its like having a million dollars in ur pocket and u r begging for a penny !

Bad Habbits die hard:lol:

Thar desert have lignite deposits not coal. These lignite fields are also present in western rajasthan and northern gujarat with similar quantity of reserves as of Pakistan. The problem is with depth, lignite fields are cost efficient only when they are mined in open pit way as they have very less carbon and have lots of moisture. Lignite reserves in thar desert are not suitable for open pit extraction and thus the problem, in india ONGC is experimenting on coal gasification on these fields but till now there is no breakthrough.
