TF-X Turkish Fighter & Trainer Aircraft Projects

I wouldn't be surprised. There will always be a need for a fighter the size and weight class as the F-16. They're just cheaper to operate than twin engines, which the TF-X will be.

Pakistan is not part of the MMU program. (yet) There is no Pakistani company among the companies involved in the MMU program. On the other hand, TAI has an office and a university cooperation program in Pakistan. There are strong expectations but no official announcement.

The press release about TAI's Pakistan office reads as follows: "It was established in 2020 to strengthen the trade network between the two states, to promote, exhibit and market our products and services, to cooperate with all universities, especially the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), and to expand the sales market for our products. One manager and nine engineers are attached to our unit and continue to represent our Company in the country." Similar offices exist in Malaysia and Qatar under the names TUSAS Malaysia SDN. BHD. and Turkish Aerospace QFZ LLC.

With or without the MMU partnership, TAI has always declared that it would share its capabilities with the Pakistani military, should the Pakistani defense ministry require it. There is a special relationship between the Pakistani and Turkish defense ministries, with strong ties regardless of the political conjuncture in both states. Therefore, it would be more accurate to look at this not in terms of the programs Turkiye is conducting, but in terms of what capabilities it has achieved. Maybe PAF will never be an MMU operator, but Turkish systems will always be an open option for integration on its own platforms.

Installation of all systems on the National Combat Aircraft P-1 prototype has been completed! Finally, the engine assembly was completed on December 21.

So, March 18 roll-out target for the aircraft was achieved. According to Temel Kotil, they are ahead of schedule and are in a position to bring the roll-out date forward.

It was all a huge misunderstanding.

To answer your question, no.

Pakistan is interested and has probably invested some money, but all the research, development, manufacturing...etc, is being done but Turkey alone.

All systems have been integrated to GTU-0. As per Temel Kotil, they can do the rollout sooner. But their target is still the 18th of March.

-Main radar and rear radar not ready
-E/O not ready
-IRST not ready (probably)
-missile warning system (probably)
-helmet not ready
-ew suit not ready (probably)

etc but these are not a problem for first tests and flight.

The Engine is supposed to be domestic eventually
Struggling to develop engine past 15 years due to lack of know how. Gave invitation to Rolls Royce and other firms for ToT, they rejected. Finally ending up buying engines from GE under contract without any meaning full know how.

No country will give them any critical technology.

This isn't really accurate. There was discussion over the EJ2000, but this was before the Project requirements changed from a light fighter using the EJ2000 to a bigger plane with a different role, using the same engines from the F-16, which Turkey has more familiarity, as it license produces the engine in Turkey by TEI, which builds subcomponents for several GE engines. Rolls Royce does not have an engine in the F110 to give to Turkey. The current negotiations with RollsRoyce are to develop a next generation engine with RollsRoyce in the same class as the F110(something akin to the F136), as RollsRoyce plans on developing an engine of the same class for the Tempest Program.

There is a relative degree of confidence from TEI that it can build an engine with a similar performance as the F110 which it current builds subcomponents for and license produces domestically. The issue is that it wouldn't be a next gen engine, the negotiations with Rolls Royce are over codeveloping such an engine.

There are news and test results on dozens of system and material technologies on a component-by-component basis along with dozens of production technologies and machinery in the forum archives. However, very few of us scan these news, the majority tend to characterize the situation with superficial comments such as 'no they can't do it' 'no it's not easy' with the perception they have.

Btw, ten years from now, much will be written and drawn about how important the TS-1400 project has been in the leap of the Turkish aviation industry. For now, its importance cannot be fully understood as we are still in the middle of this process.

Some...supposed "anti-drone" system by a guy. It was shown on a TV program. Many people got excited online,others found it ridiculous. I think it looks like a low-budget sci-fi prop.

The most critical part is pulling out the single-crystal blade from the finely powdered titanium, nickel etc. Now, these blades must endure 2500-3000C of temperature under heavy stress conditions for long duration (e.g., 1000 hrs) without showing fatigue and other reliability related issues. And, you need to flawlessly repeat it for thousands of blades with comparable performance and quality. Any grain boundaries in these blades during production, and you're dead. TEI has successfully achieved that. Now, the rest are all a matter of time to achieve.....
